The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday condemned Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s alleged disparaging remarks on the cognitive abilities of United States (US) President Joe Biden,
saying that such remarks are unfortunate and are not in keeping with government friendly ties with the US.
“You know, that India shares multifaceted partnership with the United States, and this partnership has been built over years of perseverance, togetherness, mutual respect and commitment by both sides," MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal told reporters here during the weekly briefing.
"We see such reports as remarks as unfortunate, and they’re not in keeping with government friendly ties with the United States," he said.
Former Congress president had made the headlines while addressing a poll rally in Maharashtra’s Amravati on November 16 while attacking PM Narendra Modi.
He said that Modi too was beginning to show signs of memory loss as Biden, who frequently makes headlines for his verbal gaffes and missteps.
An image of a woman commando next to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral.
With many speculating that the woman commando is a part of SPG (Special Protection Group), the identity of the woman officer, along with her branch of service, remains unknown.
The photo in question is from Parliament, where female SPG commandos are stationed.
These commandos are typically deployed at gates for frisking female visitors and are also involved in monitoring people entering or leaving the premises.
Since 2015, women have also been included in the Close Protection Team (CPT) of the SPG.
At present, the SPG reportedly has around 100 female commandos. They serve in both close protection roles and advanced security liaison capacities.
The Special Protection Group was established in 1985 to provide close security to the Prime Minister, former prime ministers, and their immediate families.
SPG officers are trained in leadership, professionalism, and close protection skills.
Over the years, the SPG has adopted innovative approaches to ensure the security of protectees.
The organisation collaborates with the Intelligence Bureau and state and Union Territory police forces to strengthen overall security measures.
