Manipur Govt relieves senior SP Nectar Sanjenbam amid Jiribam confrontation inquiry  


The beleaguered Manipur government headed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh is faced with another embarrassment. 

Following a confrontation in Jiribam that resulted in two protesters being shot, one fatally, an inquiry has been started now. 

Col. (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam's service as Sr. SP (Combat) has been discontinued pending the investigation.

The inquiry committee will examine the incident's cause and contributing factors, aiming to submit findings within 30 days.


"In view of making a detailed inquiry into the reported incident of confrontation between Special Commando Team led Col. (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam, Sr. SP (Combat) and the Protesters near the Jiribam PS on 17-11-2024 leading to bullet injury of 2 protesters out of whom one succumbed to the injuries, the Governor of Manipur is pleased to constitute an Inquiry Committee," an order from the Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi said.  


The probe will be conducted by K. Kabip K, IPS, IGP (Intelligence) and  Ningshen Worngam, IPS, DIG (Range-III).  IGP Kabip will be the chairman to the panel while the other official DIG will be a member.


The Committee shall submit its findings within 30 days.  


The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Student’s Front had called for the immediate termination of Senior Superintendent of Police (Combat) Colonel (Retd.) Nectar Sanjenbam following the alleged killing of a young protester, Khundrakpam Athouba Ningthouja, in Jiribam.
