Two village volunteers were injured in the bomb attack by Kuki militants at Kangchup Chingkhong. Thay are Elangbam Pari (24 years) from Wabagai and Ph Devananda (34 years) from Kangmong Maisnam Leikai. They have been evacuated to RIMS hospital.
Meanwhile, a village volunteer was injured in a fierce gunfight with kuki militants at Leitanpokpi and Dampi Hill Range under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station in Bishnupur District between 3 to 3.30 pm on Monday.
The gunfight erupted in the aftermath of the fatal killing of a young woman, Sapam Sophia, who was allegedly shot dead in an unprovoked terror attack by Kuki militants in Bishnupur district on Saturday.
Kuki militants rained down bullets and bombs including rockets at the villages located at peripheral areas of the valley on Monday evening after 11 Kuki militants were slain by the CRPF in Jiribam district, Manipur
The attacks were carried out upon Koutruk, Kadangband and Kangchup Chingkhong and Phayeng under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal West. The attacks began around 7. 15 pm by Kuki militants, following which both the Central and State forces deployed at Kangchup Chingkhong retaliated.
At around 8.20 pm, Kuki militants burned down newly constructed fabricated houses at Porompat Ching of Phayeng under Lamsang police station. The fabricated houses were meant for housing police and security forces, reports 'Imphal Free Press'.
In a turn of events, the Kuki militants started firing rockets from Kharam Vaiphei and Nakhujang around 7.25 pm. The rockets hit several areas at Phumlou and Lairensajik. Some of the rockets failed to explode on hitting the ground.
Manipur: Curfew imposed in Jiribam after fresh clashes
The Manipur government has clamped prohibitory orders for the whole area situated within the revenue jurisdiction of Jiribam district on Monday with immediate effect and until further order after fresh violence flared up in the district.
The latest order issued by Jiribam District Magistrate, Krishna Kumar, prohibited assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and the movement of any person outside their respective residences.
At least 11 Kuki militants were gunned down in Manipur's Jiribam on Monday after they attacked a CRPF camp around 3.30 pm.
Following the attack on the camp, the CRPF retaliated and eliminated 10 Kuki militants and also recovered several weapons from their possession.
In light of the "tragic events" that unfolded on Nov 10 in Jiribam in Maniour where 11 Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers died in clash with central forces, the Kuki-Zo Council has announced a Total Shutdown tomorrow (Nov 12, 2024), starting from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM in honor of the victims.
The protest is also to express collective grief, Khaikhohaugh Gangte, Secretary Information, Kuki-Zo Council said in a statement.
