Priyanka Gandhi takes oath as MP::: Eknath Shinde showed dignity by saying that it is High command that will decide who must be Maharashtra CM" - Shaina NC

Shortly after Priyanka Gandhi’s oath  Lok Sabha adjourned amid ruckus

The third day of Winter Session kicked off  in both Houses, with Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi taking oath as a Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad.

Moments after her oath, both Houses were adjourned till 12 noon.

Since the beginning of session on Monday, both Houses have seen repeated adjournments and protests. On Wednesday, the proceedings in both Houses were adjourned for the day, after Opposition MPs raised slogans inside the Parliament demanding talks on Adani bribery case, Sambhal violence, among other issues.

In Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar rejected 18 notices submitted by Opposition MPs demanding a joint parlimentary committee probe into Adani bribery charges in the US, Sambhal violence and increase in incidents of crime in Delhi.

Subsequently, Opposition MPs started shouting slogans and the Upper House was adjourned for the day.

The Trinamool Congress will focus on “people’s issues” in the ongoing winter session of Parliament and it does not want the proceedings to be disrupted over “one issue”, deputy leader of the party in Lok Sabha Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said Wednesday.

While the Congress is vociferously raising the issue of industrialist Gautam Adani being charged in an alleged bribery and fraud case in the US, the Trinamool Congress said it will be focusing on issues like deprivation of central funds to West Bengal and the situation in Manipur.

“TMC will sharply focus on ‘people’s issues’ to raise in Parliament,” Dastidar said.

The remarks come as the Adani issue was raised in both Houses for the second day, and both Houses were adjourned without transacting much business.

“TMC wants Parliament to run. We don’t want one issue to disrupt Parliament."

Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders on Wednesday said they want to discuss the Sambhal issue in Parliament and demanded that any probe into the incidents that led to violence in the Uttar Pradesh town should be conducted under the Supreme Court’s monitoring.

“We want a discussion on the incident that happened in Sambhal. Many of our MPs have issued notices to the speaker regarding this. We want to speak on the floor of the House about the inhuman behaviour of police and the administration against people,” SP MP Dimple Yadav said.

“The Upper House needs to reflect and follow well-established traditions that ruling of the Chair requires reference and not cause differences. I have, in detail, given reasons why, in these situations, notices are not being accepted,” chairman Dhankhar said while rejecting the notices under Rule 267 of the House.

“As I have reiterated on several occasions, I thought it wise to bestow focused attention given the situation that we are entering the last quarter of the century of adoption of the Constitution of India. We had a great occasion to celebrate it yesterday. And, therefore, I emphasise that this House, the House of elders, the Upper House, the Council of States needs to reflect and follow the well-established traditions that a ruling of the chair requires deference and not the cause of differences,” said Dhankhar.

During the Question Hour in Lok Sabha, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said there is a need to make existing laws more stringent to curb vulgar content on social media platforms. Vaishnaw said the Parliamentary Standing Committee should take up the issue and also called for a consensus to frame more strict laws in this regard.

The Bills including Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak and The Officials (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill 2024 are listed for consideration and passing in Rajya Sabha. In this Winter Session, the Punjab Courts (Amendment) Bill, Merchant Shipping Bill, Coastal Shipping Bill and the Indian Ports Bill are listed for consideration and eventual passage. The session concludes on December 20.

Maharashtra | Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC says, "...The strike rate of all three parties has been so stupendous that every party will want its leader to become the Chief Minister. But we feel that the way Eknath Shinde has worked on the ground, without any allegation and for the common man and led us to victory, he should have been the natural choice.

"He has also shown dignity by saying that it is the high command that will decide who should be given the leadership...Mahayuti is here to stay and to work in the interest of the people of Maharashtra. For all those who lost their ideology and threw it away for power, the public has given a befitting answer to them."
