New Delhi

Rebel Naga leader N Kitovi Zhimomi on Thursday flayed what he said was the "ill-intent of political players" vis-a-vis their move to seek a new peace interlocutor for the Naga issue.

"To me, it sounded like a joke....all intelligent people got together at Kohima to adopt such a ridiculous resolution," Kitovi told this journalist over phone.

"Talks are on for 27 years and more and technically talks are over and we are now only waiting a common draft...signing date and venue and they now want a new interlocutor...

.Bhat khaisey.. auru Prarthana koribo. This is not done," he said.

"We Christians pray before the Lord before the celebration or feast, not after the Khana," he said.

"You cannot be insulting the entire process....In fact, those who piloted the move for such a resolution should say sorry to Naga people and Naga revolutionary groups. We came out of jungles, we floated NNPG and we also worked for the Agreed Position. Now they want a new negotiator," Kitovi said adding,

"The ill-intent of political players is crystal clear".

On Sept 12 at a high-powered meeting at Kohima, it was resolved to seek a new interlocutor- preferably a union minister.

Even BJP leader and state Minister Imna Along had later said: “The Political Affairs Committee has asked for a strong leader to be an interlocutor so as to provide a stronger platform for early resolution of the Naga Political Issue".

Answering questions, Kitovi said - "What political interlocutor ... when everything is being monitored by India's top two politicians - I mean PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Any minister will have to report to Shri Shah and Shri Modi ji....".

Moreover, he said, "A dedicated interlocutor like A K Mishra or R N Ravi are always a better choice.

If things are left with ministers, they are mostly pre-occupied, often traveling and when there is some urgency we may be asked to wait for days and weeks".

He also said a new interlocutor at this juncture "is like inviting us the Naga groups to come with an additional and new agenda".

"What will happen when things go out of control... Those who want a new interlocutor at this stage should be asked this question.

You media people are too soft and gentlemen type...everyone should do their job properly (laughs)".
