The 'unusual' email address had the username 'Khilafat India'.
The sender alleged that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das were involved in "the biggest scam in the history of India". A case was registered to probe the threat at the MRA Marg Police Station in Mumbai.
In apparently unrelated development, the Israeli embassy confirmed a blast had taken place near the consulate building on Tuesday, Dec 26, evening.
This came after the Delhi Fire Department received a call about the explosion behind the embassy.

Delhi Police was alerted about the blast behind the embassy located in the Chanakyapuri area, which is the diplomatic neighbourhood in the national capital. The blast was reported on a call by an unidentified caller to the Delhi Fire Service at around 6 pm earlier today.
The caller claimed that an explosion took place on an empty plot behind the Israeli embassy. A special cell team of the police along with the bomb squad reached the spot.
Nothing suspicious was, however, found at the location, sources said.
In Mumbai, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received a bomb threat email saying the offices of RBI, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank would be attacked.
The sender of the threat mail demanded the resignation of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, police said.
The mail threatened that a total of 11 bomb attacks would occur at 11 places in Mumbai at 1:30 pm on Wednesday. Mumbai Police said they had gone to all the places mentioned in the mail to investigate but did not find anything.
