Teary eyed Advani leads lawmakers, others to pay homage to Ananth Kumar

New Delhi, Dec 20(UNI) Glowing tributes were paid on Thursday to former Parliamentary Affairs Minister and BJP's chief architect in Karnataka Ananth Kumar by veteran parliamentarians, including the two presiding officers of both the Houses of Parliament-- M Venkaiah Naidu and Sumitra Mahajan.






BJP patriarch L K Advani, who saw the rise of the late leader, was teary eyed on the occasion and  said, ‘’I can't even think i would have to come in his condolence meet. It is difficult for me to speak much today.’’


Another BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj stood moist eyes as she spoke and maintained, ''I was only seven year elder to him but Ananth used to call me 'Maa'(mother).''  


The solemn function was also attended among others by Late leader's family members.


The veteran parliamentarian and Union Minister breathed his last on November 12.

In his remarks BJP chief Amit Shah said, ''Ananth Kumar came into the BJP family through his mother who was also associated with the party and as a minor he had gone to jail for 40 days.''


''Before his victory in Karnataka, the BJP had not tasted the sweetness of the electoral success in the state,'' he said.

The BJP chief also credited late Kumar for the pioneering job he did in ensuring 'neem coating' of urea-one of the flagship initiatives of the Modi government.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu recalled the deceased parliamentarian as a lively person and said he personally had the opportunity of working with him very closely. 

''He was an ideal grassroot worker, ideal parliamentarian, ideal Minister, ideal friend,'' said Mr Naidu, adding the late BJP leader also enjoyed working.

''Getting elected six times is not an ordinary thing,'' he said. 

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the late leader would be remembered for long time 

for his expertise in parliamentary matters and working ability.

Ms Swaraj recalled that her last telephonic interaction with Ananth Kumar was highly emotional as, ''he had called me after return from abroad and said after talking to me he would go to sleep.''

Among others those who paid homage to their colleague included Supriya Sule, B Mahtab, K H Muniyappa, N K Premachandran and Saugat Roy.

The function was also attended by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and MoS Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel.
