On cash apparently recovered from Rajya Sabha seat allotted to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, BJP MP Anurag Thakur says, "If the Rajya Sabha chairman has made a statement then it means the matter is serious.
The truth should come out. Why is the opposition running away from raising the issues of the public?... Why they (the opposition) are not allowing the parliament to function?..."
Rajya Sabha chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday said Rs 50,000 cash was recovered by Parliament security officials from the seat allotted to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The claim by Dhankhar on the floor of the House led to protests by Congress MPs, with Mallikarjun Kharge stressing that names should not be taken before an investigation.
Abhishekmanu Singhvi, however, denied the charges. "I just carry a Rs 500 note when I go to the Rajya Sabha.
Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, says "....To politicize everything, to make accusations and counter-accusations in everything shows our entire system in a bad light...".
"About an hour ago, I heard this humorous thing. I think there should be a rule that a glass box should be made which completely surrounds the seat and it should have a lock and key so that whichever MP leaves during the day or night, should lock it before leaving.
"I came to the House for 3 minutes yesterday at 12:57 PM, had lunch with Ayodhya Prasad in the canteen and left for Court. If these things were not serious, I would have considered it funny," Singhvi said.
BJP MP Arun Govil says, "If such a thing has happened, it is unfortunate. Nothing should be said until the investigation is completed...".
BJP MP Deepak Prakash says, "There is a connection between 'Congress, Kaali Kamai aur Kala dhan'...The Congress leaders have done the work of making this pious temple of democracy impure. What can be more unfortunate? Today, the Parliament has been shamed."
"During a routine check yesterday after adjournment of the House, a wad of currency notes was recovered by security officials from seat no 222 presently alloted to Abhishek Manu Singhvi. An investigation will take place in accordance with law," the Rajya Sabha chairperson said.
The remark saw an irate Mallikarjun Kharge quickly get up on his feet. "You said that this matter is under investigation. Until it is authenticated, his name should not be mentioned," the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha said.
Congress MP K C Venugopal says, "...We are witnessing a bulldozing attitude of the government to suppress the move of the opposition. Yesterday one of the members gave a very derogatory remark against LoP and another member of the House and Congress party.
Another member gave a derogatory remark outside parliament. Congress party has given a privilege motion against both of the leaders...
While we are giving the complaint against derogatory remarks of the member, the same member is allowed to do the same thing today...The speaker is under the total pressure of the government...".
