PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump began their bilateral talks at the White House, focusing on tariffs, immigration, and strategic issues, just hours after Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs and amid his crackdown on illegal immigrants.
In the meeting with Modi, President Trump said :
"It's really an honour to see you, you have been my friend for a long time. Congratulations on having done a great job."
"It's a great honour to have PM Modi of India. He is a great friend of mine for a long time. We have had a wonderful relationship and we kept the relationship during our 4 year period...We have just started up again. We have, I think, some very big things to talk about."
"Number 1 is, they are going to be purchasing a lot of our oil and gas. We have more oil and gas than any other country in the world. They need it, and we have it. We are going to talk about trade. We are going to talk about many things," the US President said.
In response PM Modi said, "I am happy that as soon as I entered this room, my friend reminded me of Ahmedabad and cricket stadium where we held a big rally and the events that we did in Ahmedabad Namaste Trump and Howdi Modi in Houston

You have made immense personal contribution towards strengthening of our relation towards making them more comprehensive and attaining unprecedented heights in our relationship," Modi said.
The Prime Minister maintained : "I firmly believe that, in your second term, we will work with even more speed.
"As I have promised people of India that in my third term, we will work with thrice speed, I firmly believe that with President Trump, during the next 4 years, during his second term, we will work with twice the speed than we did in his first term"
Earlier Donald Trump embraced Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he arrived at White House in Washington, DC.
The two leaders are meeting in person for the first time after the inauguration of President Trump as the 47th US President on January 20, 2025.
Indian delegation including External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval and India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, arrive at the White House soon after PM Modi's arrival.

Earlier Modi also met Vivek G Ramaswamy and his father-in-law in Washington DC.
"We talked about diverse issues including innovation, culture and more," Modi tweeted.
Vivek Ganapathy Ramaswamy is an American entrepreneur and politician.
He founded Roivant Sciences, a pharmaceutical company, in 2014. In February 2023, Ramaswamy declared his candidacy for the Republican Party nomination in the 2024 United States presidential election.
He suspended his campaign in January 2024, after finishing fourth in the Iowa caucuses, and he proceeded to endorse Trump's candidacy.
Ramaswamy was born in Cincinnati to Indian immigrant parents.
Prez Trump meeting will focus on increasing Indian purchases of U.S. goods, boosting Indian investments in the U.S., and easing trade barriers.
India aims to avoid a trade war while seeking relaxed export controls.

PM Modi met US NSA and held key discussions on strengthening defence and security ties.
