Rebel Naga leader and convener of NNPG, N Kitovi Zhimomi, on Wednesday virtually exposed the double standards of the Nagaland state government vis-a-vis its commitment for an early Solution.
Addressing a press conference near Dimapur, he said:
"I was asked by a journalist that what is my reaction to the Nagaland Govt camping in Delhi and asking for a new interlocutor, my response was "Bhat khaya pisotey prarthana no kotey toh
"We never pray when the feast is over...," he said implying according to Govt of India talks have been concluded in 2019 itself and what is being awaited now is early inking of the Solution pact.
"Such demand (of a new interlocutor) is another deliberate attempt to delay the Solution," Kitovi asserted in presence of his colleagues.
To a question, he said - "Every time the Nagaland Govt says we are ready to pave the Solution... but lately they have started saying we are ready to pave the way if Solution comes".
"I am yet to understand what they really mean .... State Govt toh sincere asey na sincere nae etu kobo na paribo (Whether the state Govt is really sincere or not we cannot tell or confirm)".
The Naga peace parleys started in 1997 and according to the Govt discussions were completed by Oct 31, 2019. However, due to demands for a separate Constitution and Naga flag by the NSCN-IM, the signing of the final pact is being awaited.
In the meantime various questions have been raised about the role of so-called the Status Quo club - which does not want Solution.
Time and again various games have been played to allegedly the delay the talks process. According to Kitovi and several others - the demand for a new interlocutor is one such strategy.
As reported in these blog columns in November after the Nagaland cabinet met Home Minister Amit Shah with the demand of a new interlocutor, the plea was reportedly rejected by the centre.
Lately a group of opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha supported such a demand in a letter to the Union Home Minister.
The Opposition MPs' letter also glorified the Framework Agreement inked in 2015 and ignored the Agreed Position signed between Govt of India interlocutor R N Ravi and the NNPG.
Interestingly, on February 12 the NSCN (IM) termed the letter by some Members of Parliament (MPs) concerning the status of the Naga peace process as a “wake-up call” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In November 2024, the Centre sought to give a crystal clear message that politicians, legislators and state Govt should do their "homework" properly especially with regards to issues related to the NSCN-IM.
"The Message is loud and clear and is that they need to do their homework with NSCN-IM," the informed source said.

"Demanding change of Interlocutor is never a Solution agenda.... It is strictly political,' the source had said.
Sources also said that the Govt of India line is crystal clear - India will have only one Constitution, One Flag and One Prime Minister.
"These have to be made clear to NSCN-IM... What can be agreed upon has been told to them. The govt. Policy is same either in Nagaland or Jammu and Kashmir".
