Namo's victory speech: Gen Z will know what's BJP's governance model for first time
Following the BJP's win in Delhi after 27 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Gen Z will be able to witness the saffron "party's model of governance for the first time".
"The youth born in the 21st century will now see BJP's good governance in Delhi for the first time. Today's results show how much trust the country has in BJP's double-engine government," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his victory speech following the saffron party's historic win in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Calling the people's mandate a "loan" to his government, he promised to deliver progress at an accelerated pace. "Our double-engine government will now deliver development to Delhi at double speed to repay this loan," he declared.
"I was seeing that BJP workers across the country also had a pain in their hearts. It was about not being able to serve Delhi fully. But today, Delhi has accepted our request too," he said.
As he stepped onto the podium to a roaring applause from BJP supporters, PM Modi assured the people of Delhi that his government would repay their trust with rapid development.
"Delhi has given us love wholeheartedly, and I once again assure the people that we will return you double the love in the form of development," he said.
AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was defeated in his New Delhi bastion by BJP's Parvesh Verma, the son of another former Chief Minister, by 4,089 votes.
This is a stunning fall for the civil servant-turned-politician who rose to prominence with the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare.
Kejriwal's defeat mirrored AAP's fortunes, with the BJP set to return to the national capital after a hiatus of 27 years.
Late Sushma Swaraj was the last BJP chief minister.
Kejriwal, battling corruption charges and the 'Sheesh Mahal' controversy, won the New Delhi seat for the first time in 2013 after defeating the then Delhi Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Sheila Dikshit.
He went on to win the high-profile seat in the 2015 and 2020 polls with hefty margins.
