For the first time US votes in UN in alignment with Russia since the start of Ukraine-Russia war :::: UNSC nods US draft calling for end to war without mentioning Russia's aggression

This was the first time the US voted in alignment with Russia since the start of the Ukraine-Russia war. And it goes without stating that this was a huge shift in policy stance from Washington.

While Donald Trump got a shocker at the UNGA, in the Security Council, the US had its stay and its resolution was approved. All these happened amid an escalating feud between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump.

US sides with Russia at UN vote on Ukraine in huge policy shift; India abstains

The United Nations on Monday adopted two resolutions on Russia's war in Ukraine.

What is strategically vital is that the UNSC resolutions have a binding for implementation, the ones adopted at UNGA are not.

In a stark shift from its longstanding foreign policy, the United States, along with Russia and other allies, voted on Monday against a United Nations resolution--backed by most of Europe--demanding Russia’s withdrawal from Ukraine and condemning the war.

Meanwhile, India abstained from voting.

Russia’s UN ambassador Vassily Nebenzia has acknowledged “constructive changes” in the US position on the war in Ukraine after the security council approved a resolution marking the third anniversary of the war without mentioning Russian aggression.

He told the council the resolution was “not an ideal one,” but “a starting point for future efforts towards peaceful settlement.”

As we reported earlier, Russian President Putin has said that Moscow is ready to collaborate with the US on rare earth minerals production, but that a potential US-Ukraine deal was not a concern of Russia.

However he also said that any Russian deal with the US could potentially involve minerals in Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.

US President Donald Trump earlier said that “major economic development transactions with Russia” would take place. Within two hours of Trump’s statement, Putin chaired a meeting with his ministers and economic advisers on rare earth metals.

We, by the way, would be ready to offer (joint projects with) our American partners, and when I say ‘partners,’ I mean not only administrative and governmental structures but also companies, if they showed interest in joint work,” Putin said on state TV after the meeting.

UN security council approves US resolution calling for end to Ukraine war without mentioning Russia's aggression.

The UN security council has voted to adopt a US-drafted resolution to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine without mentioning Russia’s aggression.

The resolution received 10 votes in favour, while five members including the UK and France abstained from the vote.

Along with India, Argentina, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Iran also abstained from voting in the UNGA vote.

At the Security Council, where resolutions are legally binding, and it has veto power along with Russia, China, Britain and France, the US pushed for a vote on its original draft.

The resolution was adopted after Russia vetoed European nations' bid to amend the draft.
