(The Opposition lawmakers have lampooned Sonia Gandhi and perhaps unknowingly hailed the Framework Agreement inked during the stint of Modi Govt at PM's official residence in the presence of the Prime Minister and the then Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Aug 3, 2015)
The 'best' part of the letter is the timing .... First part of Budget session of Parliament .... only a few days left ... !!
Legendary Phizo: Founding Father of Naga Movement |
** Lobbying seems to be at work, and quite efficiently
!! Chingwang Konyak must be smiling along with a few colleagues of his.
The missive is STATUS QUO CLUB vis-a-vis Solution to the Naga issue is now active in Delhi
Who dun't ? Possibilities are ... one or two 'friendly' organisations of one/two Underground Group(s) is too busy these days !!
Desperation is visible !!
The operative part of the two-and-a half page statement is :::
"In light of these pressing concerns, we earnestly urge your good self to ensure that a detailed update on the Framework Agreement and its progress is presented before Parliament in the forthcoming session.
(That means these honourable MPs and a vocal lawmakers such as Manoj Jha, Sushmita Dev, John Brittas are totally ignorant about the Agreed Position inked in 2017 between Govt interlocutor (full-time as they put it - R N Ravi and a 'genuine' friend of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio) with the NNPG... Or are they keen to side with the 'preliminary pact of 2015 only' ?? )
And then they dutifully echo the spirit of Kohima resolution of Sept 12 (2024) --
"Furthermore, we request that immediate steps be taken to appoint a full-time interlocutor for the peace talks to restore trust and momentum in the process, thereby ensuring that the hard-earned progress of the past three decades is not undone and that lasting peace is achieved at the earliest possible.
(What do they say --- 'earliest possible' -- Chingwang's favourite phrase by now)
The letter from MPs addressed to Home Minister
"Respected Shri Amit Shah Ji" ... says:
"We, the undersigned Members of Parliament representing various political parties across the political spectrum, are writing this joint letter to bring to your kind attention a matter of significance concerning the Naga Peace Process, a subject that has garnered broad bipartisan support and has been a focal point of strategic significance for our nation".
(Are they also forgetting the period between 2004 and 2014 -- when the country's Prime Minister (also then a Rajya Sabha MP) Manmohan Singh represented Assam but never even visited Nagaland)
The letter (possibly drafted by NGO writers and some 'friendly' organisations) almost dutifully says:
"The Naga Peace Process, which saw a notable milestone with the signing of the "Framework Agreement in August 2015, was heralded as a historic step towards resolving a long-standing conflict.
(here ... unknowingly while giving credit to the Framework Agreement ... the signatories also give credit to the Narendra Modi-Rajnath Singh duo and the then interlocutor R N Ravi; and also NSA Ajit Doval)
Notably even DMK MPs have signed it !!
R N Ravi - Will DMK MPs still give him some credit ? |
"This agreement, envisaged to embody mutual equality and respect, trust and confidence, was the culmination of efforts initiated by past leaders, including Late Shri P. V Narasimha Rao, and furthered by successive Prime Ministers.
The progress achieved up to this framework has been commendable, including the ceasefire initiated in 1997 and the joint Amsterdam Communiqué of 2002"
(Framework has been commendable ... under Modi? Do they say so?
Notably yet again - in 2015 -- three Congress CMs Tarun Gogoi and his counterparts in Manipur (Ibobi Singh - also a friend of P Chidambaram) and CM Arunachal had blasted the Framework Agreement of Aug 3, 2015......
Muivah signed FA with Ravi in presence of Modi |
The letter says:
"Despite this progress, the apparent current stasis in the peace process is a matter of grave concern. It appears that the goodwill generated by the Framework Agreement has yet to be fully capitalized upon.
Given the geo-strategic sensitivity of the North-Eastern region-bordering five countries and playing a crucial role in our national security-the urgency of fostering peace, progress, and democratic stability in this region cannot be overstated."
(good job two/three 'friendly' organisations... I like the phraseologies -- blogger)
"The delay in advancing the peace process is troubling and raises apprehensions about the efficacy of the current negotiations. Such stagnation may risk undermining the hard-earned trust and support built over decades," the letter says.
It also states: "The Naga peace process has historically enjoyed bipartisan support, transcending various governments and political spectrums, a reflection of its national importance The achievements including the ceasefire agreement, the Amsterdam Communiqué, and the Framework Agreement, underscore a collective commitment to establishing a durable peace in the region, pivotal for addressing broader insurgency issues in the North-East".
(I doubt most of them may believe the Framework agreement came under UPA...But the bitter fact is even Sonia Gandhi had blasted and 'opposed' the FA after it was inked.)
(Intellectual MPs and also 'friendly' organisations will have to do another sitting and read the article I penned in August 2015... the link is here
“Sagacity has never been the forte of Congress and its leadership. In fact, they are the most elitist, feudal and arrogant bunch of politicians, who think that ruling the country is their birth-right,...

(In fact, the friendly organisations or Chingwang Konyak's political well wishers also did not tell the MPs probably that on Aug 6th, 2015 -- Sonia Gandhi had said:
"This Government (under Modi and coming three days after Framework Agreement was inked) keeps on saying that everybody has to be taken along and that they will hold consultations with all, will take the views of all Chief Ministers.
Then what happened? Their arrogance is now even more clear than before.
And it is an insult not only to the chief ministers, but to the people of these states and to the federal structure of our country," Sonia had said.
