New Delhi has said that both India and China "positively affirmed" implementation of disengagement along Line of Actual Control
India, China agreed to end standoff near the border in Eastern Ladakh
India and China have "positively affirmed" the implementation of the disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
Both the countries have also agreed on the need for effective border management, in line with bilateral agreements.
"The two sides positively affirmed the implementation of the most recent disengagement agreement which completed the resolution of the issues that emerged in 2020," the MEA said in a statement.
Following this, both armies began the disengagement, dismantling the structures they set up in Eastern Ladakh's Depsang and Demchok areas after the 2020 Galwan clash, and pulling back personnel to their positions held prior to the confrontation.
The 32nd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was held on Thursday in Delhi.
Both countries prepared for the next meeting of the Special Representatives, which is to be held in accordance with the decision of the two leaders in a meeting that took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Russia's Kazan on October 23, two days after the border truce.
In the Kazan meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks after five years.
The talks between two sides also reviewed the current situation along the border areas, with both sides "reflecting on the lessons learnt from the events of 2020 in order to prevent their recurrence."
Emphasizing the importance of clear communication, the MEA added, "In this context, they highlighted the importance of regular exchanges and contacts at diplomatic and military levels through established mechanisms."
