Mohan Bhagwat celebrates his Birthday on Sept 11 ::: How much has he come up himself up the ladder of Hindutva politics ... and what has he achieved for the Sanghparivar and 'Hindu Bharat'

 There is no denying the fact that several major RSS goals — the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the abrogation of Article 370 and a Uniform Civil Code in some states — have been achieved.

Without Narendra Modi at the helm and the determination displayed by the Prime Minister, the large Hindutva forces and Bhagwat himself would not have got the boxes ticked.

But there are still things many things to achieve.

Both Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah would also want the RSS as the Sanghparivar fountainhead should bring in the Dalits and Backward Classes and help "consolidate the Hindu support base.

It is not only a matter of election, one BJP leader says adding the RSS chief has now given unto himself to 'expand' the ideological support base further and also must eradicate the perception that the RSS chief and the Sangh Parivar is communal.  

Mohan Bhagwat also worked hard for 2014 electoral success in his own way. After 2009 polls, L K Advani was replaced as the Leader of the Opposition by Sushma Swaraj. 

In 2014 elections, Bhagwat along with other leaders and including from the BJP or even wings such as Swadeshi Jagran Manch, ensured that the Sangh Parivar in a unique show of unity fought the elections together.

The results were good.

Once there was a perception that Bhagwat is "Modi’s man" but today - either we can say Modi is Bhagwat's man or they both belong to each other in more ways than one and also both supplement each other.  

On Aug 5, 2020 when the foundation stone was laid for the Ram temple, Bhagwat was there alongside the Prime Minister. Similarly in Januray 2024 -- when the grand temple was inaugurated with a puja - Bhagwat was present on the occasion even as it was Modi who stole the limelight.

If this is a 'golden period' of Hindutva after British colonial rule; we cannot forget the contributions of Bhagwat and other top RSS leaders.

The best compliment from the Parivar for the RSS chief comes when a faceless Hindutva soldier hails Bhagwat's leadership and it says Bhagwat brought a transformation in the Sangh Parivar and made it look very easy. In the process, he also has been contributing towards the cause of Hindutva in his small and personal manner and at the same time cooperated with the BJP time and again.

But he has his ways of sounding displeasure whenever necessary.

In June 2024 (after poll results were out), Mohan Bhagwat at a function in Nagpur had said Manipur has been 'waiting for peace' for more than a year. 

 Following the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, in which the BJP's numbers dropped from 303 to 240; Bhgwat did not explicitly name Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but he made a calculated critique of Modi's alleged 'centralized' (or even autocratic) style of functioning.  

"Jo vaastavik sevak hai, jisko vaastavik sevak kaha jaa sakta hai, woh maryada se chalta hai. Uss maryada ka paalan karke jo chalta hai, woh karm karta hai 

(A true 'sevak' maintains dignity. He follows the decorum while working. He does not have the arrogance to say 'I did this work'. Only that person can be called a true 'sevak')," Bhagwat had said.

But at the same time when time for 'working together' came in Harya, Maharashtra and later in West Bengal -- the Sangh Parivar was fighting the elections as an effective and purposeful large Hindu family.  In an article in 2025 (Sept 11),  PM Modi wrote :  

"My association with Mohan Ji’s family has been very deep. I have had the good fortune of working closely with Mohan Ji’s father, the late Madhukarrao Bhagwat Ji. I have written extensively about him in my book, Jyotipunj."

 Bhagwat's tenue as the head of the Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik Pramukh during the 1990s are still fondly remembered by many Swayamsevaks.

 During this period, he spent considerable time working in the villages of Bihar. These experiences further deepened his connect with grassroots issues. 

In 2000, Bhagwat  brought his unique way of working, handling the most complex of situations with ease and precision. 

In 2009, he became the RSS chief and continues to work with great vibrancy.
