Indian leadership's phrase 'makes it' -- "We encourage increasing efforts, through dialogue and diplomacy" :::: BRICS Delhi Declaration says "no woman has ever been elected for the role of Secretary General" ::: BRICS seeks to highlight the need to enhance energy security by ensuring energy market stability

 "In light of the ongoing selection process of the next Secretary-General of the UN and bearing in mind the relevant provisions of the UN Charter, 

.... we note that no woman has ever been elected for the role of Secretary General, and only one national from Latin America and Caribbean, and only two nationals from Africa and Asia each have ever occupied this position.  

It said --  "We stress the need for the selection and appointment process of the UN executive heads and senior positions to be guided by the principles of transparency and inclusiveness, and carried out in accordance with all the provisions of Article 101 of the UN Charter,

 with due regard for recruiting staff on a geographical basis as wide as possible and the increased participation of women".  

The Declaration "deplored attempts, including by deliberately withholding assessed contributions, to unilaterally undermine the work of global multilateral institutions".  

It said  --  "BRICS countries will continue playing a pivotal role in voicing the concerns and priorities of the Global South, as well as promoting a more just, sustainable, inclusive, representative and stable international order based on international law."     

The declaration "reiterated the need to intensify" the fight against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance as well as discrimination based on religion, faith or belief, and all their contemporary forms around the world.  

The Declaration said -

"We recognize that energy security is a crucial foundation for social and economic development, national security and the welfare of all nations. 

We highlight the need to enhance energy security by ensuring energy market stability and maintaining undisrupted flows of energy from diverse sources, strengthening value chains, ensuring resilience and protection of critical energy infrastructure, including cross-border infrastructure. 

"We acknowledge fossil fuels will still play an important role in the world’s energy mix, particularly for emerging markets and developing economies ...".  

We express deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions in Middle East/West Asia and, recalling our respective national positions, call for exercising maximum restraint, as well as avoiding actions that could further aggravate the situation. 

Furthermore, we urge to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations in their entirety and interconnectedness, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the States. 

We encourage increasing efforts, through dialogue and diplomacy, towards a longterm understanding that will contribute to lasting peace, security and stability in the region. We stress the need to work together to maintain smooth flow of global trade, supply chains and energy, in accordance with applicable international law.
