What's more important for SICKULARISM - Rahul Gandhi's membership in Lok Sabha or Gyanvapi ? The same question could be directed towards BJP-led NDA also !
What's more important for the saffron outfit and its allies, 'Gyanvapi temple issue' or Rahul's disqualification?
Amid these something called 'cracks' in the Opposition alliance. In the words of some die-hard anti-BJP parties, things have been mishandled by 'Quiz Master' inspired games of ..... you have guessed it right Kolkata's Trinamool Congress and of 'Namo-obsessed Congress party' ! Too much of 'Didigiri' perpetrated through 'experts' in penning Quiz Books or hosting shows have left some parties anguished.
The Congress for its part is a floating 'large vessel' whose ship captain could be no one or everyone and just that 'one' powerful one!
As a resut, the TDP of N Chandrababu Naidu, BJD of Naveen Patnaik and even YSRCP of Jagan Reddy (despite his 'Congress DNA') are now set to back the government on the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the no-trust motion. Some of these parties did not want even the No Confidence motion in the first place, but who cares ?
A sanguine stand and quite without good political or parliamentary reasons that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should open the debate on Manipur has now boomeranged ! Fish-fry journalism may give another twist !
But look at the past records. In 2018, the TDP had moved the no-confidence motion and voted against the Modi government.
Now, the TDP has one member in Rajya Sabha and three Lok Sabha MPs. The YSRCP and the BJD have nine MPs each in the Upper House.
Both these parties have already announced their support to the NDA regime on both fronts - the No Trust motion and also the highly controversial Delhi Services Amendment Bill.
Jagan's party has as many as 22 MPs in Lok Sabha Naveen Patnaik's BJD has 12.
Of course with 300 plus MPs from his own party, Modi was always comfortable in Lok Sabha for both the occasions - No Confidence motion and Delhi Services Bill. The trust motion will commence debate on Aug 8 and the voting is likely in Aug 10 after Prime Minister's response!
'Soft NDA partners' making things easier in Rajya Sabha |
The real challenge in number game for Modi was and is in the Upper House.
The NDA has 100 MPs apart from nominated parliamentarians and Independents. In contrast, the opposition alliance has 109 MPS; yet the game is already turned topsy turvy !! These parties -- BJD, YSRCP and TDP have now emerged as 'soft NDA partners' and the NDA is likely to have the last laugh.
Who spoiled the games for the Opposition and who all are unhappy?
Congress ally, DMK, and the Left parties now say the PM must open the debate in Rajya Sabha; on the other hand having realised that things have gone too far and even 'turned the tide'; the Trinamool Congress and Congress are now 'open to dropping' the demand that PM Modi should speak first and open the debate !
The egg should actually fly to Kolkata to be shared among aunts, nephews and Quiz Masters! Some of it should also deservedly go to AICC. The 'advantange' has been turned into 'Disadvantage' and it is also a loss of face now if a compromise is made now!
The Team Modi has gauged things correctly; and now they say the debate on Manipur can be held only on Friday (August 11), also the last day of the ongoing session.
The argument being simple and logical, between Aug 8 and 10; the Lok Sabha will take up the No Confidence motion.
The full strength of the House is 243 but there are some vacancies and AAP member Sanjay Singh has been suspended and this reduces Opposition tally. But with the YSRCP and the TDP also likely to back the government, it is implied that things could have been handled better by the opposition camp.
During the passage of Delhi Services Bill, Home Minister Amit Shah really showed the Opposition the 'mirror' when he said your chief concern is not the governance issue in Delhi; but keeping the alliance together.
And the 'unity in the alliance' is more of a joke. How?
Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on visiting Delhi Mohalla Clinic, said,
"It is not that impressive. We have such models in our state as well. There were not many people. It is not a game-changer. I am not saying it is bad, but it is not like the way it is made out to be...There are many models in the south - Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka."
I come back to what I started this blog piece; what should be rejoiced tonight -- stay to conviction of Rahul ; or the fact that ASI survey will be carried on at Gyanvapi ?
