PM Modi counters 2023 'Manipur chaos' with Indira's 1966 bombing in Mizoram

No Confidence Motion rejected by voice vote in Lok Sabha : On 5 Mar, 1966, Congress bombed citizens in Mizoram, Were the people not citizens of my country?", asks Modi at the end of three-day long marathon debate.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi says, "The Opposition didn't have trust in their no-confidence motion. Their statements were non-reliable and the nation didn't believe them. Most importantly, these people have betrayed the nation...The House which has a majority of 272 and 303 MPs sitting there belong to one party and they are bringing a no-confidence motion against that party..."

New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government came out with flying colours in Lok Sabha for the second time in five years after the Congress-sponsored No Confidence Motion was rejected by voice vote.

The numbers were always in favour of Mr Modi and hence the Opposition also did not insist for a division. In fact, they staged a walkout in the House while PM's reply to the marathon 3-day long debate was still on.

The Prime Minister -a shrewd political operator and an articulate leader that he is - cleverly sought to turn the table against Congress by referring to the alleged blunder of the the Indira Gandhi era of 1966.

So, the clever takeaway will be Modi countered 'Manipur chaos' of 2023 with Congress party's hara kiri of the 1960s.

"People of north east are not responsible for the troubles in the region....the politics (of Congress) is responsible for this," the Prime Minister said.

"...On 5th March 1966, Congress had its Air Force attack the helpless citizens in Mizoram. Congress should answer if it was the Air Force of any other country. Were the people of Mizoram not the citizens of my country? Was their security not the responsibility of the Government of India?..... Who was Prime Minister then," said Mr Modi adding the same Congress had no right to question his government.

In what can appear another setback for Congress, by way of a House resolution moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhand Joshi, Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's conduct (during PM's reply) was referred to the Privilege Committee.

The Prime Minister urged the people of Manipur and specially had a message for the women of Manipur that the "entire country stands with them".

"We will find a solution to this challenge together and once again peace will be restored there and Manipur will again join the path of development".

He said, "Serious crime against women took place in Manipur and it is unforgivable. The central and state governments are making all possible efforts to ensure strictest punishment to those guilty.  I want to assure people of the country that peace will be restored and Manipur will move ahead with new self-confidence".

Earlier, he thanked the opposition parties for tabling a No Trust Motion stating such strategies have always backfired on them and have served as 'good omen' for him and the NDA.

"When the opposition will bring a no-confidence motion again in 2028, the country would have become third largest economy in the world," he virtually mocked.

PM #Modi refers to #Congress Govt bombing #Mizoram on March 5, 1966 ... why Congress hide this fact ?

"Lohia had accused Nehru of not developing north east deliberately", PM in Lok Sabha

"Efforts are underway by Centre, state government to punish the accused in Manipur. I want to assure the people of the country that there will be peace in Manipur in the near future," says PM Modi.

"Sincere efforts being made on Manipur situation will definitely show good results...My msg to people of Manipur and daughters and sisters is peace will be re-established and development will restart there": PM #Modi

"It is true that Lanka was not set ablaze by Hanuman, it was set ablaze by his (Ravan) arrogance. People are also like Lord Ram and that is why you have been reduced to 40 from 400. People elected full majority government twice but it is troubling you that how come a poor man is sitting here and this is not letting you sleep and the people of the country will not let you sleep even in 2024. There was a time when cakes were cut in aeroplanes on birthdays, but today vaccines are being sent for the poor in those aeroplanes..."

"When we say that we will make our economy the third largest economy in the next 5 years, a responsible opposition would have asked questions as to how will we do it but

'Yeh bhi mujhe hi sikhana pada raha hai'.

"I want to express my sympathy with the opposition because a few days ago you performed the last rites of UPA in Bengaluru.

On one hand, you were performing last rites par aap jashan bhi mana rahe the aur jashan bhi kis cheez ka- khandhar par naya plaster lagane ka...I want to tell the opposition that you are following those who even after so many generations are not able to differentiate between Lal mirch and Hari mirch'..."

"...If Congress says that everything will happen on its own, it means Congress has neither policy nor intention or vision or understanding of global economic system or India's economic world's strength..."

"When the opposition will bring a no-confidence motion again in 2028, the country would have become third largest economy in the world," says PM Modi replying to no-confidence motion debate in Lok Sabha.

PM says, "We've taken India's reputation to greater heights but there are some people who are trying to tarnish the image of our country in the world but today the world's trust in India is increasing..."

PM Modi : "Fielding Vipaksh ne organise kari lekin chauke-chakke yahi se lage'...

"What kind of discussion have you done on this motion. I am seeing on social media ki 'Aapke darbari bhi bahut dukhi hai'.

"The Opposition is blessed...with a unique blessing, anyone they curse will come out with flying colours...one person is in front of you"

"Vipaksh ke logon ko ek secret vardaan mila hua hai ki jiska bhi yeh log bura chahenge uska bhala hi hoga.' One such example is standing before you. '20 saal ho gaye kya kuch nahi hua par bhala hi hota gaya.."

Modi says, "Our focus should be on the development of the country...It is the need of the hour. Our youth have the power to make dreams come true...

We've given corruption-free govt, aspirations and opportunities to the youth of the country."

"Its God's blessings that #Opposition brought the #NoConfidenceMotion ....the same was the case in 2018: PM #Modi

"Opposition's No Confidence has always been lucky for us. Today, I can see that you (Opposition) have decided that NDA and BJP will come back in 2024 elections with a grand victory, breaking all previous records, with the blessings of the people,"

"No Confidence Motion always bring good omen for BJP and NDA " - PM

"God is very kind and speaks through some medium...I believe that it's the blessing of God that opposition has brought this motion. I had said during the no-confidence  motion in 2018 that it was not a floor test for us but a floor test for them and as a result they lost in the elections...".

"Today, I can see that you (Opposition) have decided that NDA and BJP will come back with a grand victory, breaking all previous records, with the blessings of the people, says PM Modi as he replies to the #NoConfidenceMotionDebate

"You allowed the Parliament to function only (Delhi Servives Bill) when it was a pre condition by your corrupt partner (in reference to AAP)".

PM Modi took a dig at Congress for not giving time to its floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to speak in the House on the No Trust Motion.

In 1999, Sharad Pawar had led the debate. In 2018, Mallikarjun Kharge spoke at length, but no time was given to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

"I don't know what was compulsion of Congress for sidelining Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, maybe call was made from Kolkata".

"Through their conduct, a few Opposition parties have proven that for them Party is above Nation. I think you don't care about the hunger of the poor but the hunger for power is on your mind."

"A few things in this No Confidence Motion are so strange that they were never heard or seen before, not even imagined...The name of the Leader of the largest Opposition party was not among the speakers...This time, what has become of Adhir ji (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury)? His party didn't give him the opportunity to speak...It was your generosity that you allowed him to speak today even when their time slot had concluded.

Lekin gud ka gobar kaise karna usmein ye mahir hain...I don't know what your compulsion is, why has Adhir babu been sidelined. Maybe there was a phone call from Kolkata, Congress insults him again & again...Hum Adhir babu ke prati apni poori samvedna vyakt karte hain..."
