Agartala:
The Congress will work tirelessly to emerge as the 'genuine alternative' to the BJP and the CPI-M in Tripura, senior party leader Sudip Roy Barman said here.
"Of course there is never an easy way to success. We are working hard and people and especially SCs and Scheduled Tribes are coming forward in large numbers in unexpected quarters showing keenness to join or get associated with the Congress party," Barman told this journalist in a brief interview here.

"The tribal population now realise their mistakes.... they never got acchhey din. Someone sold their rights and dignity. They also got disillusioned with nationalist party, that is the BJP. The CPI-M ruled for 25 years. But the common people got nothing," Barman said.
To a question, he said the role of Tipra Motha Party also is being questioned by "helpless tribal villagers".
"A term has been put into circulation - Greater Tripraland. But the definition of such a big and loaded name is not clear for the people. If you say whether miracles are happening; I can say ... yes that's true. My state is the only place in India where we can make a political beggar out of a Maharaja," he said tongue-in-cheek.
It may be mentioned here that Greater Tipraland is the core ideological demand of the TIPRA Motha.
The new party was floated in 2019 and the objective of the tribal-backed outfit is to carve out a 'new State' for the 19 indigenous tribes of Tripura under Articles 2 and 3 of the constitution.
The Tipra Motha was floated by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma – the son of Tripura’s last king.
Answering questions, Sudip Roy Barman, onetime a BJP Minister, said -
"The Tipra Motha had dreamt of emerging as a kingmaker in 2023 polls. That did not happen. Hence, the entire tribal population has been taken for a ride".
Barman also said: "Therefore differences have been created... and there is a gap. The Congress party can take advantage of the same. We are trying to enlist the support of new faces and green horns. Hence, I am confident of doing well in the 2028 polls".
To a question, he said, "There will not be any alliance with the Left in Tripura...at the national level, we may have an alliance with all other non-BJP regional players like the communists and also Trinamool or Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi...That's for a bigger cause".
Answering a question on governance in the state, Roy Barman said: "Corruption is an inherent
part of the governance in the state. All of us have heard about brain drain; but we area state
where there is wealth drain as the money punped in from the centre are gradually being
whisked away outside the state".
"As a result, common people are suffering," he said.
