7,25,000 Indians are shivering in the US; .... No, it's not the biting cold...
With the return of Donald Trump, the thousands of illegal Indian immigrants in 'new' America now are on the edge.
The undocumented population is heavily concentrated in states like Florida, Texas, New York, and New Jersey, with Florida alone accounting for 400,000 individuals.
In a swift policy change, US border authorities have terminated Joe Biden's 'One Entry' program, which had allowed thousands of migrants to seek entry through an app-based appointment system.
All existing appointments under the program have been cancelled.
“We will stop illegal immigration once and for all. We will not be invaded, occupied, overrun, or conquered. We will be a free and proud nation again," Donald Trump had said prior to his swearing in.
There are approximately 14 million undocumented immigrants, including 7,25,000 Indians, in the US. The US had already sent back 1,500 Indians in the financial year 2024 under a lenient Biden administration.
The 14 million "undocumented immigrants", including 7,25,000 Indians, are gripped with fear as President Donald Trump returns to the White House with renewed determination to clamp down on illegal immigration.
As a response, many Americans are now reaching out to attorneys and churches for protection.
All these and more .... happening because ...on his first day in office, in 'new avatar', Donald Trump has pledged a stronger, more aggressive approach to deporting undocumented individuals.
Despite all these, there is a school of thought who says --- if he does achieve even 10 per cent of what he preached, it will be a "great service to the humanity".
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported over 270,000 immigrants to 192 countries, including India, in fiscal year (FY) 2024, marking the highest level of deportations since 2014. Among those deported, were 1,529 Indians.
In his inaugural address at the Capitol Rotunda on January 20, Trump outlined a series of sweeping executive orders aimed at combating illegal immigration, declaring it a national emergency.
“One of my most important obligations is to protect the American people from the disastrous effects of unlawful mass migration and resettlement,” Trump stated. “My administration will marshal all available resources to stop this unprecedented flood of illegal aliens into the United States.”
President Donald Trump announced that he is removing several political appointees, including some prominent Democrats and critics of his, from advisory boards.
Among those removed from their posts are celebrity chef and restaurateur José Andrés from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition; former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council; diplomat Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars; and ex-Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council.
“My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
