CAPTAIN JINTU GOGOI, VIR CHAKRA MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF ::: Spear Corps hosts Mega Tri-Services Ex-Servicemen Rally in Dibrugarh, Assam


20th EDITION OF CAPTAIN JINTU GOGOI, VIR CHAKRA MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF WITH GRAND CEREMONY*


In a spectacular display of patriotism, sportsmanship and community spirit, the 20th Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament officially commenced with a grand opening ceremony. 

The event, held in honour of the Assam's braveheart Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra, aims to promote football talent, foster community engagement and inspire youth development in the region.

The tournament is named after Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra, a gallant Indian Army officer from Golaghat, Assam, who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War in 1999 in Batalik Sector. 


His bravery and selflessness have inspired countless individuals and this tournament serves as a fitting tribute to his memory.







The Captain Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament has been a cornerstone of the region's sports calendar for two decades, providing a platform for local budding players to showcase their skills and compete against top teams. The tournament has helped identify and nurture talented youngsters, many of whom have gone on to represent their states.


Beyond promoting sports excellence, the tournament has a profound impact on the local community. By engaging youth in constructive activities, the tournament helps wean them away from insurgency and drug menace, fostering a sense of purpose and belonging. The event also brings together people from diverse backgrounds, promoting social cohesion and community spirit.


Indian Army has been instrumental in organizing and supporting the tournament, reflecting its deep commitment to nation-building and community development. By promoting sports, education, and cultural activities, the Army aims to empower local communities, foster national pride, and inspire young minds.


The Opening Ceremony of the 20th Edition of the Captain Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament was a grand affair, attended by dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and local residents. The event featured a spectacular Military Band Display and a league match between two top teams.


The tournament will feature 12 teams competing in a round-robin format. The tournament is being held at different venues of Upper Assam culminating in a grand finale on 11 January 2025 at Nehru Maidan, Duliajan.





The Spear Corps organised a Mega Tri-Services Ex-Servicemen Rally at Polo Ground, Dibrugarh, themed "You Served with Honour, We Honour Your Service." 


This event underscores the Indian Army's steadfast commitment to the welfare of veterans, Veer Naaris, and their families, reflecting its ethos of gratitude and respect.





Over 3,000 veterans and their families participated in the rally, which featured a cultural extravaganza and a variety of dedicated services. 


These included a Comprehensive Medical Camp with specialist consultations, pension redressal support led by CDA Guwahati, document resolution counters, and facilities for AADHAR and SPARSH registration.

The event was attended by distinguished guests including Shri Prashanta Phukon, Hon’ble Minister of Power, Skill Development and Medical Education; Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, GOC Spear Corps; Maj Gen VS Deshpande, GOC Dao Division; and Smt Damayanti Tambay, President of the War Widows Association of India. 


Their presence reaffirmed the Army’s enduring gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.In a heartfelt gesture, Veer Naaris and ex-servicemen were presented with three wheeled scooters, wheelchairs, sewing machines, and hearing aids to assist and empower them.







This rally stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s deep respect and commitment to those who have served the nation with valour and honour.
