We are "re-shaping history"; but none is fighting heroically for a better future !!! :::: Crosshairs of History ..... Time to remove uncertainty from children’s minds

We are at the crosshairs of history, a few decisions and geo-strategic moves by India or for that matter the leadership in Iran or Israel and the US will leave the greatest impact.

Middle East Window

War is a process. But it is accompanied by huge human and political cost.

We can say this is an era of 'new normal'. In Bangla one may say -- "Eita meney neu-ar jug (in Hindi -- Is waqt sab maan lete hain)".

Technically we may explain better.

Once preventive war is normalised, it can be used in FUTURE by any state that considers itself threatened in the long term.

So if Donald Trump was right in Iran and Venezuela; how could Vladimir Putin be wrong in Ukraine? What about Taiwan ? Few more illustrations may be cited in South Asia. A large section of India believes -- 'partition' of India was wrong !!

Ting tong !! Some of it is Tectonic shift.

Some call it - A miracle… and some again may label these as Revolution.

We are "re-shaping history"; but the argument could be applied -- none is fighting heroically for a better future.

The idea that complex societies can be reshaped or complicated problems can be resolved by 'external force' is not new.

But it almost never works. Donald Trump’s triumphalism after Khamenei’s killing is actually symbolises a typical Danger era.

What is needed the most in circa 2026 is restraint from all. But the situation is altogether different.

The moment requires cool heads – it's almost missing in Washington, Tel Aviv and also Tehran.

Does it exist in New Delhi, Moscow and Beijing ? -- One may ask.

No need of answers. What is needed instead is stand up for the legal principles -- the Rule of Law - diplomats keep stating.

The fact of the matter is -- however imperfectly observed, the international law and the sense of Natural Justice remain the best defence against a world governed by power-crazy leaders.

The Middle East/West Asia is complex. But complexity is hardly an excuse for analytical paralysis or the absence of logic.

Both President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have used language that could be interpreted as interferences. The regime-transition in Tehran being their focus. Trump known for his flamboyance has been more specific as he urged Iranians to 'take over' the govt.

This makes observers into believing that mere/cosmetic changes would change the strategic landscape.

Iran's arguments over proxies, missiles and maritime coercion — has been underwritten by a domestic system of organized violence.

The January 2026 “Lion and Sun” uprising was a pointer.

Tehran's existing dispensation's first and foremost targets were Iran's own citizens including women and not necessarily foreign adversaries.

The incumbent regime had declared war on its own society and prosecuted that war through repression, fear and systematic coercion. But all of it were 'internal matter' of Iran.

As they say == Law cannot be optional for allies and binding only for adversaries.

Fear is priced faster than facts.

"The Strait of Hormuz is not just geography. It is a pricing mechanism. Even a hint of tightening reprices energy, insurance, and shipping behaviour," says Syed Akbaruddin, former Indian diplomat.  He diagnoses the ailments well from an Indian perspective pretty well -- as he wrote in a piece to 'The Telegraph' :: -

For India, this is not a distant theatre. It is an economic corridor and a major human concern. Energy exposure is immediate across crude and LNG, fertiliser inputs, aviation fuel, and the inflationary ripple that follows. Logistics exposure follows through freight costs, insurance premia ....

"These are economic management and citizen protection issues".

Come to think of it ... Iran's strategy is now less about battlefield victory. It's about ego, self-esteem and even survival.

The consequences of the war are likely to be long-lasting.

Iranian retaliation has gone beyond Israel to Gulf monarchies. The Shia-Sunni debate has also surfaced.

Tehran says it has closed the strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil exports pass. Escalation is no longer notional.

Geo-politics is often like Life itself.  And life is like football game; when the whistle blows -- the game is over. No ifs .... no even as !!
