BREAKING NEWS: 

The public in Ukhrul district burned down the Wung Tangkhul Region Secretariat on Sunday evening (March 29, 2026) following the killing of four NSCN Eastern Flank cadres. 

The alleged shoot out took place on March 28 night. 

Wung Tangkhul Region is Ukhrul-Kamjong-Tangkhul heartland

"Such an order to shot at our own cadres cannot be from 2nd Lieutenant, it came from the highest level." the NSCN-Eastern Flank said in a statement earlier in the day.  

The NSCN-IM (Hebron) categorically denied issuing any such order.

“Investigation is underway to establish the facts and circumstances leading to this horrific incident,” the NSCN-IM said.

The Hebron leadership is allegedly keen to maintain control of the illegal trade including timber in Naga areas and not allow Eastern Flank to have any say.

The NSCN-IM has denied the charge and said -- "... no such order was given from general head quarter".  

"... they fired indiscriminately at our cadres; four of our brave and beloved cadres were shot on the spot, and two of our cadres escaped from the firing. 

Such an order to shot at our own cadres cannot be from a mere 2nd Lieutenant, the order must come from the highest level, Collective Leadership or the Longvibu," goes an angry statement from GPRN (Eastern Flank).

The statement says:

"We are deeply saddened by the demise of four of our cadres in an ambush carried out by 2nd Lieut. Mathotmi of Shihai Khunou Village on the 28th of March, 2026 at around 8.30 pm to 9.00 pm at Hongbei village Junction. 

Key Details Regarding the "Eastern Flank" and Lt. Gen. Hanshi Ramsan:

Leadership and Reorganization: Lt. Gen. Hs. Ramsan (also referred to as Hanshi) was instrumental in directing new leadership in the "Eastern Flank" of the Naga Army in Myanmar.

Dissident Move: Reports indicate a reorganization of armed cadres, with Lt. Gen. Ramsan and others moving to form this new operational command.

Context: This development occurred amidst internal crises and reported disarming of other command structures, with some leaders accusing the central NSCN-IM of abandoning original revolutionary principles.

Location: The Eastern Flank operates in the Sagaing Division of Myanmar. 

"Four of our brave and beloved cadres: Major (Posthumous) Sochipem Phungshok Army No. AX- 40200, Sergeant Major (Posthumous) Zairay Vasah Army No. 45655/22, Sergeant (Posthumous) Bahnle Ahlahpya Army No. 45592/21, and Sergeant (Posthumous) Thansomi Washi - Army No. 44982/19 were shot on the line of duty", Eastern Flank said,

All these indicate things are turning serious. In New Delhi, the key security apparatus has sought for detailed information on the 'factional clashes' within the state of Manipur.

"Things are premature to draw any investigative conclusive remarks .... but they are definitely of serious nature and whatever has been gathered indicate the fire-fight occurred over differences in distribution of extortion money," says an informed source.

Appointment of A Shimray as army chief in Dec 2017 === brought in alleged Differences. 

The tussle between the Anthony Shimray top leadership of Naga Army of NSCN-IM (Hebron) and Hanshi R & Absolam NSCN-IM (Eastern Flank) increased. 

Handing over of charge by A Shimary to Honerishadang in Dec 2025 was supposed to end the rift.

Due to differences with Hanshi led Eastern Flank, NSCN(IM) Hebron created a alternate and parallel system in Myanmar, say analysts in Delhi.

- The situation in Myanmar has been exploited by Eastern Flank, but NSCN-IM Hebron has maintained a conservative approach.

*Media Statements* Media statements were released by Hanshi R and counter were released from NSCN(IM) during 2024 and 2025 was open display of differences.

- Announcement on taxation by Eastern Flank in Myanmar Naga Hills(MNH) has probably increased the differences.

The NSCN-IM (Hebron) is attempting to restrict NSCN-IM (Eastern Flank) move along & across the Indo-Myanmar border areas.
