AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, who has announced his party's intent to contest West Bengal polls, on Wednesday told a press conference in Kolkata that --
"Mamata Banerjee was with the BJP ... She created ruckus in Parliament speaking about infiltrators".
“People of Bengal are suffocated. They are looking for a genuine alternative, and our alliance with Humayun Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) aims to provide that".
"Yeh upper caste elitist mentality haen... hum raj karenge, aap ghulami karna," he said answering a question. (There is an upper caste elitist mentality; let me be in power and you be sub-ordinate to us).
"This is not going to be allowed any more..," he said. Answering a question on the matters related to 'Right to Equality' in the context of Muslims in West Bengal; he said - "The Right to Equality in effect should mean substantive equality."
Referring to Humayan Kabir; he said -- "I disagree with him on one point ..... he said, we will have a deputy CM. No; I will say we will have a Chief Minister of our own.
The Deputy CM does not have any power.... Deputy CM is the sixth finger on the hand".
He emphasised that the partnership seeks to stop the exploitation of weaker sections, particularly minorities, and strengthen independent Muslim political leadership in the state.
Development of minorities remains a pressing concern, he added, alleging that the TMC has failed to address issues like the cancellation of backward class certificates affecting lakhs of Muslims.
Humayun Kabir, who floated the AJUP after his suspension from the TMC over his controversial proposal to build a Babri Masjid-style mosque in Murshidabad district, echoed the sentiment.
The Hyderabad MP maintained - "Neither TMC nor BJP want that Muslims should get genuine empowerment".
"The matters concerning Muslims' welfare ... is not like a musical chair. We are trying to come out of this. We want to come out of consistent exploitation," Owaisi said.
