"We have rescued the economy and taken to a new height" - says PM Modi

"The community I belong to, its identity has been that the promises made during the elections are forgotten after elections, but I am an exception. India is progressing regularly. When you gave us responsibility of country in 2014, the biggest question was to bring India on the path of development.

India was among the fragile economies, there used to be big corruption. We have presented a white paper mentioning nuances of the state of then economy. I urge you to study it, debate it.

We have rescued the economy from there to take it to such height," says PM Modi at the CII event on Budget 2024.

"We are discussing 'Journey towards Viksit Bharat', this change is not just about sentiments, but it is about the confidence. India is now fifth biggest economy and the day is not far when India will become the third largest economy."

"During the times of pandemic, we were discussing to get the growth back. I then said that India will soon run on the path of development and India has today attained a new height. India is growing by 8 pc."

"The Budget has come recently, I want to present some facts of it. When the last Budget of Manmohan Singh govt came, it was of 16 lakh crore, it has now swelled to 48 lakh crore. Capital expenditure, which is called the most productive medium of resource investment, its figures are very interesting.

In 2004, UPA govt was formed, in their first Budget, it was 90,000 crore. In 2014 (10th year of UPA govt), it was 2 lakh crore. Today, it is more than 11 lakh crore. Budget allocation has increased manifold in many sectors", he said.
