Namo receives Russia's highest civilian honour :::: PM credits 'fuel trade' b/w India and Russia for bringing stability to global market

PM Modi receives Russia's highest civilian honour during Moscow trip

PM Modi received the Order of St Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, from President Vladimir Putin for his outstanding efforts to promote partnership and friendship between India and Russia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received the Order of St Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, Russia's most prestigious civilian honour.

PM Modi received the honour from President Vladimir Putin for his outstanding efforts to promote partnership and friendship between India and Russia.

Upon receiving the honour, PM Modi thanked Putin and Russia saying that it was a 'samman' for 140 crore Indians and a reflection of centuries-old friendship between the two countries.

World should accept it stabilised global market

PM Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Russia, credited the fuel trade between India and Russia for bringing stability to the international market.

"When the world was facing the challenge of fuels, your (Russian) support helped us fulfill the petrol and diesel requirements of people in India. Not just this, the world should accept that India-Russia agreement regarding fuel played a big role in bringing stability to the international market," Modi said addressing the media in Moscow on Tuesday alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It is true India continued buying Russian oil despite Western pressure.

"Citizens of many countries had to face hard times due to the fuel shortage. But due to our agreement, we were able to save people of India from fuel shortage, inflation, and bring stability," Modi said.

Russia's oil exports were hit after some European nations imposed sanctions for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. These measures aimed to reduce Russia's revenue from oil exports, thereby limiting its ability to finance military operations and exert geopolitical influence.

India was among the few nations who continued buying Russian oil despite pressure from the West.

The fuel trade between India and Russia was particularly beneficial for New Delhi as they imported crude oil at a heavy discount.

India's oil imports from Russia rose to a record of about 2.1 million barrels per day (bpd) in May this year as discounts for Russian oil widened on lower demand from China.

India's fuel import from Russia also helped stabilise the global oil markets as New Delhi enhanced its exports of diesel and jet fuel to Europe.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his first bilateral visit to Russia in five years, also described Moscow as India's "all-weather friend".

“No matter how low the temperature dips below minus during Russian winter, India-Russia friendship has always remained in 'plus', it is full of warmth. This relationship is built on the strong foundation of mutual trust and mutual respect,” the Prime Minister said.

PM's big message to Putin on Ukraine war: Death of innocent children very painful

Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin during the bilateral talks that both of them discussed about the Ukraine war "with an open mind".

He said that the death of innocent children in war is "heart-wrenching" and very painful.

"Whether it be war, conflicts, or terror attacks, everyone who believes in humanity is pained when there is loss of lives. But when innocent children are murdered, when we see innocent children dying, it is heart-wrenching and that pain is immense. I also had a discussion about this with you," he said.

Ukraine said that Russia had attacked the main children's hospital in Kyiv with missiles on Monday and rained missiles down on other cities across the country, killing at least 41 civilians in the deadliest wave of air strikes for months.

On PM Modi's visit to Moscow, Russian ambassador to India Denis Alipov says,

- "We have welcomed the Prime Minister in Russia. This visit is significant in terms of discussing global matters and regional matters, most of all in terms of reviewing bilateral relationships which are very extended. We have a lot of prospective projects in the pipeline which have been discussed and are being implemented already, be it in oil & gas, defence, or culture.

In every sphere, we have a great scope of bilateral engagements...

We expect the PM to come in for the BRICS summit also.

We are looking forward to continuing the annual exchange of summits, the practice that has been going on for the last 20 years...We are looking forward to a high-level delegation visit from Russia to India."
