Paradise .... 'half conquered' :::: Merchants of Cock Bazar ?? Remembering 'first' chief minister from Tenyimia region :::: T N Angami had blasted "evil designs to bring communism to Nagaland"

All mysteries would end up in one simple theorem about mankind. It's always better individuals who try to fix the flaws in the world.

"... Some of us took bullets on our bodies for whom......I think it is to uphold the Indian Constitution and for the unity and integrity of the country.

Why Naga soldiers and officials in the Indian army perform so brilliantly? Is it for their salary? No, it is for their devotion to work and in honour of the tri-colour," -- thus spoke S C Jamir in Feb 2023.

Jamir had a unique career. Of course as a former Congressman and Governor of four key states including the likes of Gujarat and Maharashtra -- besides being chief minister at different intervals -- he would be called a protagonist of nationalism.

We may never say - he is alone. Among Netas of his stature and time - he may share the title with Hokishe Sema.

But Jamir also had a good stint as a regionalist. He became deputy chief minister during Vizol Angami-led UDF government.

Jamir had also told me in a brief interview:

"Think of the innocent Naga policeman from a village. All have a great sense of duty and devotion".

Jamir had also referred to his days in the UDF in the 1970s. He recalled quite vividly. "The Naga Nationalst Organization (NNO) to which Hokishe and all of us were members passed a Resolution at Pfutsero general session affirming that "Naga underground are not hostiles but an integral part of Naga family and they should be treated as such".

This landmark resolution was not implemented by the NNO Govt. Hence differences arose within the party. Some of us led by T N Angami, former Chief Minister, were expelled from the party".

He further said, "So, along with the UFN we formed the UDF. In the subsequent election UDF came to power. It was the desire of the people we formed the UDF".

S C Jamir : Onetime UDF deputy CM

"may have to change the master"

Jamir who has worked with all Indian Prime Ministers since Jawaharlal Nehru said, "During our initial days in politics and in parliament; we used to think probably two or three political forces will dominate Indian political scene. That would have helped India.

I think many problems India faces today even after 75 years of its existence like caste-based politics would not have got encouragement".

"On the same backdrop, I will argue; linguistic based politics also were encouraged. This has triggered a dangerous trend. One party may be called a Bengali party or Tamil party. This was not the India, our founding fathers had imagined," he said.

In 1968, as the second Chief Minister after P Shilu Ao, T N Angami moved a resolution.

"The Assembly recommends that the state government should immediately assume full responsibility for maintaining law and order effectively to protect the innocent villagers from being terrorised by the hardcore of underground section". (March 28, 1968)

On the same day, T N Angami moved yet another one condemning the Naga militants contacting China.

"This Assembly feels strongly that the contacts with China by a section of the underground Nagas with evil designs to bring communism to Nagaland

.... and to turn it into another Vietnam is a suicidal policy directed against the Naga people and the church".

The resolution in fact used a few more stronger phrases.

On Sept 19, 1965, Late Shilu Ao moved a resolution recording the state assembly's "full appreciation of the remarkable courage and heroic performance of our security forces against Pakistani aggressors".
