Netanyahu pauses security cabinet meeting on Gaza deal to talk with Narendra Modi

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paused the security cabinet meeting discussing the ceasefire and hostage-release deal in Gaza to speak over the phone with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, according to 'Times of Israel'.


“Prime Minister Modi congratulated Prime Minister Netanyahu on the agreement reached for the release of all the hostages,” reads an official statement from Israeli authorities. 


Modi “noted that Netanyahu has always been a close friend and that their friendship will remain strong.” Netanyahu thanked his Indian counterpart “for his support of Israel, and the two agreed to continue working in close cooperation,” the readout concludes.

Later, Prime Minister Modi, in a post on X, said, "Called my friend, Prime Minister Netanyahu, to congratulate him on the progress made under President Trump's Gaza peace plan. 

We welcome the agreement on the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. Reaffirmed that terrorism in any form or manifestation is unacceptable anywhere in the world."


The Office of the Prime Minister of Israel also posted on X, "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu just spoke with the Prime Minister of India. Narendra Modi conveyed his congratulations to Prime Minister Netanyahu on the agreement achieved for the release of all of the hostages."


Meanwhile, the Israeli government has voted in favour of a ceasefire and hostage release agreement under US President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza Peace Plan.
