Harsh Sanghavi sworn in as Gujarat deputy CM, post revived after four years. And nothing happens in the saffron party without reasons and without long term planning.
Sanghvi has an image of a performer and is Jain. It may be too early. But it remains to be seen whether he will become BJP's face for the 2027 assembly elections.
The swearing-in took place at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, where chief minister Bhupendra Patel and 25 other ministers took oath before Governor Acharya Devvrat.
The caste composition of the new cabinet includes
-- eight ministers from the OBC community,
six from the Patidar community,
four from tribal communities,
three from Scheduled Castes,
two from the Kshatriya community, and one each from the Brahmin and Jain (Laghumati) communities.
The new cabinet retained six outgoing ministers and inducted 19 new faces, including BJP MLA Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja.

Harsh Sanghavi, 40, as the Deputy Chief Minister.
He represents the Majura constituency in Surat and is known within the Gujarat BJP as a “politically sharp, organisationally rooted” leader.
Seen as close to C R Patil and perhaps also to Home Minister Amit Shah; his rise consolidates South Gujarat’s representation in the new council of ministers.
The strategy also means the BJP has an "intent" to blend generational renewal with regional balance.
A three-time MLA, Sanghavi earlier handled key portfolios including home (state), sports, youth, and cultural activities.
His appointment as deputy chief minister makes him the youngest to hold the post in Gujarat since the formation of the state.
Hence such decisions are taken not without good reasons.
The move -- as per the plans of Modi-Shah duo - is also seen as part of a larger strategy to strengthen the BJP’s urban and youth base.
The Lotus party is in power since March 1998.
Narendra Modi had replaced RSS-old hand and senior colleague Keshubhai Patel on Oct 7, 2001.
In politically crucial South Gujarat polity Sanghavi has built a reputation for disciplined administration and effective public engagement.

Sanghavi’s appointment revives the deputy chief minister post in Gujarat after nearly four years, a position last held by Nitin Patel in the Vijay Rupani government before it was discontinued in 2021.
