Plea seeking NDPP's derecognition reportedly dismissed ::: Delhi High Court was informed about death of petitioner Zeneisilie Ate Loucii

Plea seeking NDPP's derecognition reportedly dismissed

The Delhi High Court was pleased to "dispose" of the writ petition after it was "apprised about the demise" of the petitioner.

Sources said NDPP senior vice president Rusemtong Longkumer was informed about the court developments by party's counsel Rituraj Biswas in a written communique.

The case related to the petitioner Zeneisilie Ate Loucii (wife of Lhoutuo Loucii and a resident of Zhadima Village P.O. Chiechama of Kohima district) verses the Election Commission of India.

In view of the demise of the petitioner, the matter abates and no right sue services; the counsel representing the petitioner stated that in view of this development, the matter would not be pressed further, it has been stated.

The petitioner Zeneisilie Ate Loucii had in a petition under section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 in May 2018 had sought cancellation of the official recognition of the NDPP as a political party.

The matter had come for hearing first in 2019.

Those in the know of the matter say the petitioner had sought a direction from the Election Commission "withdrawing the registration" of NDPP, the respondent Party.

The Complainant has alleged that the NDPP had obtained its registration by fraud, having filed false affidavits of its President, three General Secretaries and 11 members, in violation of the Guidelines and Application Format for Registration of Political Party.

Counsel for the petitioner had submitted a chart giving the names of 27 persons who had submitted affidavit affirming membership in the NDPP.

It was claimed the concerned 27 individuals had deliberately filed false affidavits under oath, swearing that they were not members of any other political party. However, it was claimed that they were all NPF members.

This is certainly an interesting development as it comes days before the stage is set for merger of the Chingwang Konyak-led NDPP with the NPF.

The latter with the 'cock' symbol has been at the helm of regional politics in Nagaland since 1960s.

The Democratic Party of Nagaland (DPN) was formed on Oct 21, 1963 under the chairmanship of A Kevichusa.
