"The only reason lions, dolphins and eagles still exist is because we (human beings) allow them to" -- goes a very catchy line in the book 'Sapiens'.
The book has another thought-provoking one-liner: We’re the only animals that can invent and believe in legends, fairy tales and myths.
The Naga peace talks is at the crossroads. This is of course no rocket science. But what is important today -- mid April 2025 - is that how the protagonists have handled the issue so far.
Problems are complex; but developments in last few weeks have hinted about some forward looking movement.
In other words, thanks to a 'decisive' Modi Govt (thought still not firm and determined to the level it is required to be) -- the Status Quo club has suffered a series of setbacks.

It's a different chapter that they still have confidence in negativity.
Nagas have a deep sense of self respect. They are also men of honour. Hence simply forgetting the past values is just not easy. In fact, it is the old values of Nagas that gives strengths to the modern day protagonists of the Naga movement.
That they have been able to fight back often with their back on the wall is appreciable.
Thankfully, the Govt of India is also appreciating the same about Naga leaders and has now started being 'more direct and candid'. Probably New Delhi would not trust some of the old information channels.
Nothing Doing .... (but) poor performance !!
That the Ceasefire was extended lately to NSCN (NK) led by N Kitovi Zhimomi is one small and routine but a vital message. The saboteurs of the peace process and the Status Quo club vis-a-vis the Naga Solution were keen that things should get little distracted.
But New Delhi took a vital political and decisive decision. The paper tigers and 'instigators' of the split-game got it on their knuckles.
N Kitovi has been shown the respect by New Delhi and that was a well deserved trophy.

Duo that delivers : Modi asey hobo toh !! |
Kitovi to some mandarins in Delhi is akin to India in the context of the ongoing mess called the global trade war. The west needs India as a counterweight to China. Kitovi is such a counterweight protagonist.
So the renewed confidence shown to Kitovi by New Delhi is not the culmination of courtship or any love affair. It is being realistic.
In the process of this ceasefire inked on April 11, 2025, the centre has given a signal that Kitovi, his team and even his detractors -- all will have to work for 'unity'.
Now let us move on.
Will all the stakeholders agree to a humble suggestion ? Let a new nomenclature be crated -- the United Naga National Political Groups (UNNPGs).
But this 'united' body should be effective, purposeful and result oriented.
When we say 'result oriented'; all the protagonists of the Naga movement should take a page from Mahabharata and set their eyes on the 'goal' like Arjuna had done. No more Bolero factor.
Mind you -- when Arjuna did so and also fought the battle royale later; he knew he would never be the king.
The eldest of Pandavas was always the most eligible future ruler.
Let us change the 'Mahabharata' fables a bit and leave it to posterity on whether a Yudhisthara (eldest Pandava) should be named or not. This calls for sacrifice and mutual accommodation by all Naga leaders.
The April 11th ceasefire extension is one step. It says all stakeholders need to come together and hence there is an importance today for UNNPGs.
Achieve the goal -- Peace and Solution and it will bring in multiple dividends and only then the next stage should come -- on which faction or which leader should get the upper hand.
The fact of the matter is today, Injustice wears many disguises.
It lurks in ethnic divisions, clanism and corruption and the influence of the negative-catalysts the influencers.
In all that New Delhi and its mandarins will not carry on the job as if all is well. They want to be different. They want to be remembers as players who did deliver.
History does belong to those who dare to challenge injustice and can risk their comfort.
The Govt of India will also do well to organise some meetings at high levels. Other than UNNPG leaders like N Kitovi, leaders from organisations such as the GB Federation, Senior Citizens Association of Nagaland, NTC and the Naga Hoho may be invited.
Next level will be the crucial political call. It should be loud and crystal clear - Take it or Leave it.
In such a stage, believe what veteran S C Jamir had said months back. "In Democracy, you cannot have 100 percent".
Hence, the ideal condition for inking a final Solution pact -- will be only one UNNPGs. But someone wants to miss the bus; the vehicle need not be stalled permanently.
Time to be wise and the wisdom will be in moving ahead with all non-Status Quo club groups under UNNPGs.
And let the fate of parleys on the other hand is decided differently if necessary.
