28 ASSAM RIFLES CONFERRED WITH UNIT CITATION

In recognition of its outstanding service and exemplary contributions, 28 Assam Rifles at Agartala has been awarded the prestigious Unit Citation by Governor of Tripura N. Indrasena Reddy on Friday, April 25, 2025.

The unit has played a pivotal role in anti-narcotics operations across the state, successfully conducting over 60 operations leading to seizure of contraband worth more than Rs 300 crore.

These efforts have dealt a significant blow to illegal drug networks and contributed towards a drug-free society, in line with Govt's Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

In addition to its operational excellence, 28 Assam Rifles has been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts.

The battalion actively participated in relief and rescue operations during the monsoon floods in August 2024, providing immediate support and assistance to affected communities under Operation JAL RAHAT.

It is worth mentioning that the men and women in olive green had successfully rescued 334 civilians who were stranded as a result of the rising floodwaters.

Civilians have been provided medical aid. Moreover, essential rations and supplies have been distributed to 85 affected individuals, ensuring their immediate food needs are met during this crisis.

The unit has also conducted numerous medical camps in remote and underdeveloped areas, delivering essential healthcare services to those with limited access.

Its commitment to the upliftment of the underprivileged section of the society through various civic action programs stands as a shining example of civil-military cooperation and people-centric soldiering.

Assam Rifles officials and personnel along with Customs also have been successfully taking actions against druga mafia and smugglers.

It may be mentioned here that around Jan 15-16, 2025, in what was stated as a 'decisive operation against illegal drug cultivation', the Assam Rifles, in coordination with Tripura state cops and the Tripura Forest Service (TFS), conducted a meticulously planned operation.

The move targeted extensive cannabis plantations in Kathalia area, under Jatrapur police Station, Tripura.

Covering approximately 110 acres (44.5 hectares), the operation resulted in the destruction of an estimated 90,000 cannabis plants, valued at Rs 3.5 crore in the illicit market.

In another crackdown on illegal narcotics cultivation, the Assam Rifles, during the late evening hours of 03 February 2025, successfully destroyed approximately 75,000 marijuana plants in the general area of Bejoynagar, Sepahijala district, Tripura.
