Rajputana Rifles to pay Spl. homage to Naga Kargil hero

Rajputana Rifles to pay Spl. homage to Naga Kargil hero

Kohima

Rich homage will be paid to Kargil Martyr capt. Neikezhakuo Kengurüse in West Bengal between Nov 2 and 6 when Rajputana Rifles will organise a function to observe Raising Day of the force.

Martyr's sister Neiketouii told "Nagaland Page' that among others she and their mother Mrs Dinuo Kengruse will attend the function at Barackpore.

Late Kengurüse was an officer of 2 Rajputana Rifles, who was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second highest gallantry award, for his exemplary valour in combat during operations in the Kargil War in 1999.

Born on July 15, 1974, Kenguruse breathed his last on June 28, 1999.

The Rajputana Rifles is the oldest rifle regiment of the Indian Army.

During an interaction at their Kohima residence; Martyred soldier's sister said it is a matter of immense pride for the family that the Govt of India and Defence authorities and Assam Rifles organise an annual football tournament in his name at Kohima.

This year the tournament is being organised between Nov 2 to Nov 14.

Kenguruse grew up in a tight-knit community and was taught the value of diligence, integrity, and loyalty from a young age. His sense of loyalty to his country was influenced by his upbringing.

He attended Saint Xaviers School in Jalukie for his early education before proceeding to Kohima Science College to pursue his further education.

Commissioned in the Army Services Corps in 1998, Capt Kenguruse  was instrumental in the raid that took the heavily entrenched Khalubar Ridge in Dras on June 28, 1999.

In 2024, the martyr officer's father says - "In fact, we had received a letter about 10 days before his death wherein our son had written that if he expired untimely at the battle field, we should build a memorial to remember his valour and sacrifice".

To a question he said - "Our son always thought as a soldier and a patriot.... and he was confident that the enemy (Pakistan) would be given a befitting response for their misadvdntures at the Kargil front."
