Bond between Naga MLAs and Solution to Naga problem is deep : Azo
Dimapur
NPF legislative party leader and former ( Home) Minister .Shri Kuzholuzo (Azo )Nienu on Wednesday stated that it is high time that all stakeholders, including the legislators play a crucial role in the centre along with the Naga undergrounds in order to resolve the Naga political issue at the earliest especially in view of completion of 60 years of Nagaland assembly.
"It is truly historic that the Nagaland assembly will complete 60 years of its existence. But the real achievement will be if this House can help bring in Solution to Naga problem and ensure a lasting peace," Azo told this journalist in a brief interaction at his residence here.
He said the completion of 60 years of the history of the Nagaland Assembly will lose its lustre "if we prove to ourselves that we are unable to resolve the Naga issue".
Asked to elaborate, he said : " While giving credit to God almighty for allowing me the be in the house for the fifth consecutive times I am proud of our role as legistors. But only acting as a facilator is not enough yes we have taken oath of alligance and oath of affirmation under the constitution of India .
My argument is when the talks are within the framework of the Indian constitution we legislators have full right to participate as one of the negotiating group too but if the talks are out the constitution of India than yes due to the oath perhaps we have limited role to play and when we talk about stakeholders who are the bigger stakeholders than we legislators.
That's something ridiculous. So since all talks are happening within the Constitution of India all 60 legislators including our two MPs should have his or her say in Naga peace talks".
He further added : "Talks are on for 27 years...and they say they are still talking. And I say without each elected member playing his or her role; you will never get a solution. But frankly speaking Solution is a distant dreams since there is lack of political will both at centre and in the state starting from me .
"In fact, the bond between Naga MLAs and Solution to Naga problem is deep and inherent, so my issue is why are we not doing enough as elected members".
Answering questions, he said among other things - the Naga legislators "should take a pledge not to encourage or participate in political defections. I have never done it .. and you must remember that Naga MLAs have been mocked in the past for frequent defections. Media joked calling it political headhunting.
This is not to take names..but even in the present House we have defectors and a few of them who have done it multiple times. We should take a vow at this 60 years history that we will not encourage defection".
Mr Azo also said - "Everybody seemed to be confused about real issues involved in Naga issue.....If we take all Naga ethnic groups including
Myanmar, we will have 80 plus tribes and sub tribes. It's not practical to bring everyone under one roof" at the moment Therefore, l urge all Naga National workers to go back to our original stand and that is Sovereignity".
