PM Narendra Modi is aiming for a record third term in office and has set a goal of securing over 400 seats for BJP and its NDA allies.
In an open letter to the citizens, whom he addressed as "my dear family members," in line with the BJP’s “Modi Ka Parivaar” (Modi’s family) narrative, the Prime Minister wrote:
“Our partnership is at the threshold of completing a decade. The trust and support of 140 crore Indians inspires and motivates me.”
The letter was sent by the centre to citizens over Whatsapp channel "Viksit Bharat Sankalp".
“I need and indeed, look forward to your ideas, suggestions and support as we work to fulfill the resolve of building a Viksit Bharat. I am confident that we will continue to take our nation to great heights together,” PM Modi wrote.
The Viksit Bharat agenda is a vision formulated by the Prime Minister to bring about "social changes, technical innovations, and economic reforms, to elevate India’s standing on the global stage".
He has attributed the transformation in people's lives to government schemes and programmes, referring to it as "the most significant achievement of our government over the past decade."
"It is a measure of your trust and support that we could take several historic and major decisions like implementation of GST, abrogation of Article 370, new law on Triple Talaq, Nari Shakti Vandan Act to enhance women’s participation in Parliament, the inauguration of new Parliament building and strong steps against terrorism and Left-Wing Extremism,” he wrote.
“The beauty of democracy lies in Janbhagidari or public participation. It is your support that gives me the immense strength to take bold decisions for the nation’s welfare, draw up aspirational plans and implement them smoothly,” the letter said,
Stressing that his government has made sincere efforts to improve the quality of life of the poor, farmers, youth and women, the Prime Minister said its biggest achievement is the transformation that has come about in their lives over the past 10 years.
"The success of efforts such as pucca houses through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, access to electricity, water and LPG for all, free medical treatments through Ayushman Bharat, financial help to farmers, assistance to women through Matru Vandana Yojana and many more has been possible only due to the trust that you have placed in me," the Prime Minister wrote.
Emphasising that India is moving forward with a focus on both tradition and modernity, PM Modi said the country has seen both "unprecedented construction" of next-generation infrastructure and a "rejuvenation of our rich national and cultural heritage".
There was 'no secrecy' under Electoral Bonds system..... Secrecy comes when dealings are in cash ::: Now we have Fear of Return of Black Money -- says Amit Shah
"Phir se kale dhan ka wapas ane ka mujhe dar hae (I have again the fear of return of Black money)," the Home Minister said.
'Fear return of black money': Home Minister Amit Shah says on the Supreme Court order to scrap electoral bonds. But he says the ruling of the highest court of the land has to be respected.
"The Congress had no concerns about secrecy and transparency....
He slammed Congress and said when donations were made through cash transactions, "they deposit Rs 100 in the party and keep Rs 1,000 in their homes".
"Congress has done this for years," he said.
Amit Shah's remarks came on a day the Supreme Court pulled up the State Bank of India (SBI) for not disclosing electoral bond numbers and thereby not fully complying with its previous judgment. A day earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI) published the electoral bonds data shared by SBI. The information also showed the purchases made by both companies and individuals and separately how much money each party encashed.
Shah insisted the Electoral Bonds ensured that everything was 'recorded'. "Unlike what Congress practiced for years, if Rs 1100 was donated for the party...the entire amount would go to the political party's account".
"The BJP received around Rs 6,000 crore through electoral bonds. The total bonds (of all parties) amounted to Rs 20,000 crore. So where did the rest of the bonds worth Rs 14,000 crore go?" asked the Home Minister.
Amit Shah slammed the opposition parties which are criticising the BJP for the amount it received through the electoral bonds. He said the amount the opposition parties received was disproportionate to their number of seats in the Lok Sabha.
The Home Minister pointed out that the Trinamool Congress encashed bonds worth Rs 1,600 crore, Congress received Rs 1,400 crore, Bharat Rashtra Samithi received Rs 1,200 crore, BJD received Rs 775 crore and DMK received Rs 649 crore.
Amit Shah said there was no room for secrecy after the electoral bonds scheme was implemented as the amount was reflected in the bank accounts of both the parties and the donors.
Asked at 'India Today' conclave what would be the Solution to the vexed issue, he said, "Kahin koi mil jaeyenge judge toh off the record puchunga Solution kya hae (If I meet a judge I will ask informallyoff the record, what is the Solution. As of now I do not see any Solution".
"The Electoral Bonds were thus the beginning of a process towards Solution".
