A controversy erupted after an objectionable post on Kangana Ranaut was shared on the Instagram account of Congress leader Supriya Shrinate. Kangana Ranaut hit back at the Congress leader, saying that people should "refrain from using sex workers' challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur".
The post, made a day after the BJP fielded Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, showed a photo of scantily-clad Kangana Ranaut, with a derogatory caption.
Supriya Shrinate claimed that the social media post, which has since been taken down, was made by someone who had access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts. She also blamed a parody account that was misusing her name on X.
“Someone who had access to my meta accounts ( FB and Insta) posted an absolutely disgusting and objectionable post, which has been taken down. Anyone who knows me will know I would never say that for a woman.
However, a parody account that I have just discovered misusing my name is being run on Twitter ( @Supriyaparody ) which started the whole mischief, and is being reported,” Supriya Shrinate said.
Meanwhile, the post drew a sharp response from the BJP and Kangana Ranaut.
Ranaut shared her response on X and said that “every woman deserves her dignity”
“Dear Supriya ji, In the last 20 years of my career as an artist I have played all kinds of women. From a naive girl in Queen to a seductive spy in Dhaakad, from a goddess in Manikarnika to a demon in Chandramukhi, from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii,” Ranaut said.
“We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudices, we must rise above the curiosity about their body parts and above all we must refrain from using sex workers challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur... every woman deserves her dignity...,” she added.
BJP leader Amit Malviya urged Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to sack Supriya Shrinate.
“Congress’s Supriya Shrinate makes an obnoxious comment on Kangana Ranaut in an Insta post. It is so disgusting that one can’t help, but ask - how does Congress collect so much filth in one place? If Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has any say in the party, he must sack her immediately or else resign,” Malviya said.
The BJP has played the royal heritage card by fielding Amrita Roy, the 'rajmata' (Queen Mother) of Krishnanagar Royal Palace in Bengal, against Trinamool Congress's Mahua Moitra.
The BJP's decision to pit 'rajmata' (Queen Mother) Amrita Roy against Trinamool Congress's Mahua Moitra in Bengal's Krishnanagar constituency is seen as a trump card ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. On Sunday, the BJP released its fifth list of candidates comprising 111 names, including Amrita Roy who joined the party last week.
Amrita Roy is the rajmata of the 'rajbari' (Bengali term for royal palace) of Krishnanagar. Before her name was announced, there was speculation about a possible rajmata candidate in the Lok Sabha polls.
Belonging to the Nadia royal family, Krishna Chandra inherited the throne aged 18. He was an enlightened ruler who took significant strides in social, cultural, and administrative reforms that greatly contributed to the development of his kingdom and left a lasting impact on society and future rulers.
The 'Krishnanagar Rajbari' (Palace of Krishnanagar) is a hallmark of architectural grandeur and cultural heritage in Bengal's Nadia district. The sprawling estate, one of the core attractions in Krishnanagar, was once the royal residence of the 'Maharajas of Nadia' (emperors of Nadia), and even today, it stands as a testament to their flamboyant taste and refined lifestyle. From cherished relics, age-old artefacts to a glimpse of the royal heritage, the legacy of Krishnanagar Royal Palace is richly diverse and unique.
Poll experts said that Amrita Roy’s candidature will boost the BJP, and will also help the party give a strong fight to Trinamool Congress's Mahua Moitra.
According to BJP sources, the Nadia district leadership was the first to show interest in fielding Amrita Roy as a candidate. Then, the party began reaching out to her and engaged in several rounds of talks before she finally agreed to contest the Lok Sabha elections, reports 'India Today'.
Mahua Moitra won the Krishnanagar constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, securing 6,14,872 votes while 5,51,654 votes were cast in favour of Kalyan Chaubey of the BJP, making the former win by a margin of 63,218.
Chopra, Palashipara and Kaliganj assemblies were behind Mahua Moitra's victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She got a massive number of votes from those three assemblies.
In the last five years, the BJP organisation in Kaliganj Assembly has strengthened its base. Additionally, the BJP is seemingly considering the fact that Trinamool Congress's organisational strengths have weakened in the past few months in the region.
Corruption charges and infighting in the ruling party are some of the hurdles for the Trinamool Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. According to BJP sources, the nomination of 'Ranima' Amrita Roy - a local, influential and familiar face - will help the party in widening the vote gap and gain forces in Krishnanagar.
"Reverse swing: Dynasties helping BJP and Modi's Mission 400"
Chirag Paswan, Ajit Pawar, Dushyant Chautala and Jharkhand's Sita Soren have one thing -- rather two things common. They belong to 'political dynasties' in key states including Bihar and Maharashtra and secondly, all are helping country's best known Parivarvad-baiter Narendra Modi.
Ting...Tong !! Ding Dong bell, Netas need not be in the well !!
How 'parivarvaad' in parties is helping BJP
The BJP has been attacking regional parties of 'parivarvaad' or dynastic rule. Family-run parties are more prone to splits. Ironically, some of the recent splits in the regional parties have helped the BJP electorally.
Come elections, the ruling BJP and its star campaigner, PM Narendra Modi, turn to 'parivarvaad' (dynastic politics) to attack the Opposition.
Ironically, the 'parivarvaad' that the BJP regularly attacks has ended up benefitting the saffron party indirectly in several states following a split in the "family-run" parties.
"When I question their (opposition) dynastic politics, they say Modi has no family. They forget that 140 crore citizens are 'Modi ka Parivar'," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said recently in Tamil Nadu.
The latest to join the list is the split in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's (JMM) first family, with party founder Shibu Soren's daughter-in-law Sita Soren joining the BJP on Tuesday.
Since 2019, parties run by the Paswans in Bihar, the Chautalas in Haryana, and Pawars in Maharashtra have faced splits.
The splinter groups have joined hands with the BJP, strengthening the saffron party in the respective states, and even helping it form the government, as was seen in Haryana and Maharashtra.
