Bengal politics hots up !! Mamata's cops handed over Sheikh Shahjahan to CBI after High Court order

The West Bengal Police handed over Sheikh Shahjahan to CBI after the probe agency accused Bengal CID of not complying with the High Court's order.

The CBI will also take over the case of an attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district on January 5.

The attack happened when the ED team went to Sheikh Shahjahan's house in Sandeshkhali for a raid in connection with the alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam. Shahjahan is accused of allegedly instigating the mob to attack the ED officials.

Before his arrest, Sheikh Shahjahan was taken for a medical examination at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

Earlier in the day, the CBI reached the Calcutta High Court, accusing the Bengal Police of not handing over the custody of the suspended TMC leader despite the court's Tuesday order.

On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court called the Bengal Police "totally biased" and ordered that the investigation into the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials at Sandeshkhali in January be transferred to the CBI.

Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested on February 29 in connection with the case of an attack on ED officials. He was arrested after being on the run for 55 days. The BJP had accused Trinamool leadership of having nexus with the Trinamool leader and also that the cops were trying to protect him from being arrested by ED or CBI.

BJP's Mission 370 is linked to West Bengal in more ways than one; and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's election-related sojourn in this eastern state is also inherently linked to Sandeshkhali.

During his visit to the state earlier this month, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi insisted that someone must have been trying to save Shahjahan since he was on the run for nearly two months, the PM exhorted people to answer every injury with their vote, saying,

"Har chot ka jawaab vote se dena hai".

(For every pain you suffered, hit them hard with your VOTE')

"TMC ney Sandeshkhali ke beheno ke saath jo kiya hae, woh dekh kar pura desh dukhi hae......

"Today, people in West Bengal are asking the Chief Minister .... for you has just few votes have become important than the suffering of Sandeshkhali", the Prime Minister ha said.

Modi last Friday also said that social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy's "soul would be crying" if he were made aware of the alleged sexual assault against the women of West Bengal's Sandeshkhali.

Meanwhile, in a high drama, high-profile Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Ganguly resigned from his office and is now set to join the BJP possibly on March 7th.

"The BJP is a better party than the TMC and also than the Congress. The TMC is obviously not a political party. They are a club. It's a Jatra Party (drama team) titled Ma Maati Manush," ex judge Ganguly told reporters.

"The Congress is a ‘family zamindar’ party. Compared to the TMC, the Congress and BJP fare better. However, the TMC is the worst party I have ever seen…," he also said.

Ganguly kept on attacking TMC MP from Diamond Harbour, Abhishek Banerjee and called him 'Tal patar sipahee' (a self-styled weak person pretending to be a great warrior)'.
