Preparations underway to send a special aircraft to evacuate Indians
Preparations are underway to send special aircraft to evacuate Indian citizens stranded at Kathmandu airport. With Kathmandu airport remaining closed today as well, the Government of India is making efforts to ensure the safe return of its citizens.
The Central government is preparing to send special aircraft to bring back passengers who have been stranded at the airport since yesterday.
Currently, more than 400 Indian citizens are stuck at Kathmandu airport.
Efforts are being made to coordinate with the Nepali Army to send aircraft from Delhi to Kathmandu. Officials from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu are in touch with the Nepali Army to facilitate the arrival of the aircraft and ensure the safe evacuation of Indian nationals.
Discussions are also underway to send two Indian Air Force planes to Kathmandu.
Lawmakers from Nepal's Nagarik Unmukti Party have collectively resigned. The MPs submitted their resignations while demanding the dissolution of parliament.
Nagarik Unmukti has become the third party to resign en masse. Earlier, lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party had also resigned collectively. The Rastriya Swatantra Party had 21 MPs resign, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party 14 MPs, and Nagarik Unmukti 4 MPs.
There is also discussion that 7 MPs from the Janata Samajbadi Party and 6 MPs from the Janamat Party, both part of the Oli government, may soon decide to resign collectively as well.
Party sources said the decision will be taken after a meeting of their MPs.
Nepal's Chief Secretary has called a meeting of all secretaries and district officers. A virtual meeting of district officials will be held today (Wednesday), Sept 10.
Several district administration offices and other government buildings across the country have been set on fire. The Chief Secretary will chair the meeting to discuss restoring law and order and resuming administrative functions nationwide.
