Urbanization is on 'speedy Rise' in Nagaland
Moreover, officials say migration within the state is certainly increasing at a very fast pace towards
Kohima
and Dimapur and also outside the state !!
The job scenario is bad in Nagaland and it is not a rocket science.
But how bad -- deserves a debate !! But why should the present situation continue should bother policy makers and others to work hard.
Projection about 2025 population in Nagaland is 2.5 million - that is 25 lakh approx.
Youth share makes -- 65 per cent --- people between the age group of 15 to 35 years.
Median age in Nagaland is 24 years and it's "younger" compared to 28 years as the national aggregate.
For records, India has a median age of approximately 28 years, highlighting a significant demographic dividend due to its large, young, working-age population.
That way Nagaland's statistics are in its favour; but in reality we have a different world altogether. To make things simpler - we may say that the Demographic Dividend of a youthful age comes without much saying about it.
Young median age indicates a large, potential working-age population, presenting a demographic dividend for economic growth. A large cohort of working-age individuals can help drive productivity, consumption, and innovation.
But even theoretical studies would tell that the same young people should have the necessary skills, education, and employment opportunities.
Now other data reveals that the Unemployment rate is 18–20 percent -- and its the highest in north east region.
Needless to add -- this is unchanged scenario since the statehood came into being in 1963 and the same trend lasted around 1990s as well.
And that is -- the Preferred employment sector --
Government jobs; very limited private sectors
Sectors of work: Agri & allied
(60%), retail trade, services, construction, security forces
Now let us examine the above facts and figures in terms of 'Education' statistics --
Literacy rate: 80% (higher than the national average of 74 percent )
But India's 16th state has unable to take advantage of this virtue/potential.
School enrollment:
-- High at primary level;
-- Dropout rate increases after Class 10 and 12
--- Higher education: Limited capacity in state universities/colleges
Then the Youth & Skills
- Less than 15 percent formally trained in vocational/technical skills
-- "But there is a Growing interest in digital skilling," says Pravin Yadav, state coordinator, NSDC, Skill India, Kohima
He also talks about start-ups and entrepreneurship -- which are gaining currency.
Traditional strengths: -- Handloom, handicrafts, bamboo/wood crafts, agriculture
Emerging interest areas include
-- IT, hospitality, creative industries, beauty and wellness
Now sources say there is a growing trend of acceptability of nurses from north eastern states in Japan.
Here too -- the lack of initiatives came to the fore.
Nagaland sent only two such nurses
Mizoram - could pick up as many as 50
and from Senapati region in Manipur (Naga dominated area only) - as many as 15 of them were selected.
These figures also ought to be studied to try to reach at some inferences especially on social perspective.
Senapati district - has 87.5% tribal population.
Kuki and Zo tribes would be around 23-24 per cent and Nagas -- 58.9 per cent.
At the first Military-Civil Fusion meet organised by GoC, 3 Corps and Assam Rifles at Kohima -- all these aspects vis-a-vis conditions of youths and employment sceario were discussed at length.
Sources say -- some areas were identified which should be tapped (with skill improvement) to generate jobs in --

*** Skill Development via Sainik Schools
Military Infrastructure for Civilian Training
Joint Civil-Military Entrepreneurship Hubs
Military-Led Discipline & Fitness in Skilling
