NPP Nagaland unit may have a greater political mission :::: Says "Conduct a thorough audit of all police facilities" ::::: It calls for Infrastructure Restoration in Nagaland Police

This was a long overdue issue.

"Urgent Call for Infrastructure Restoration in Nagaland Police Department"

BJP leader and deputy CM Y Patton is Nagaland Home Minister since 2018.

In 1998 under S C Jamir government, Neiphiu Rio held the Home portfolio till he parted ways with the Congress.

"Infrastructure development in the Nagaland Police Department is not merely a matter of comfort but a critical factor in ensuring law and order, public safety, and operational efficiency," the NPP Nagaland unit said in a statement.

The party led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also urges the state government headed by NDPP-BJP dispensation to accord the highest priority to this issue.

NPP is also a BJP ally in Meghalaya.

The statement said the National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State Unit, wishes to draw the attention of the public and the State Government to the urgent and long-standing "infrastructure challenges" faced by the Nagaland Police Department, including the Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) and Indian Reserve (IR) battalions.

"Police personnel, who serve under demanding conditions to maintain law and order across the State, continue to operate in facilities that require significant repair, renovation, and modernization," said a statement issued by the Media & Public Relations Cell of NPP, Nagaland.

"These conditions not only affect the morale and welfare of our personnel but also directly impact the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the police forces in fulfilling their duties to the people of Nagaland."

The key areas of concern include --

Accommodation and Barracks

Many police personnel live in overcrowded and poorly maintained quarters. The lack of proper living arrangements for officers and staff contributes to fatigue, lower morale, and reduced efficiency.

Providing dignified accommodation is essential to the well-being of personnel, particularly those deployed in challenging areas or on extended duty.

Training and Operational Facilities

Modern policing requires specialized training, physical fitness, and operational preparedness, yet training facilities remain insufficient and outdated.

Classrooms, training grounds, and physical fitness facilities are often inadequate, limiting personnel’s ability to undertake drills, tactical exercises, and skill development programs, the statement said.

It also spoke about - Mess and Ration Facilities

"Proper nutrition is essential for personnel engaged in physically and mentally demanding duties. Several units continue to face shortages in ration supply and inadequate kitchen and mess facilities, which adversely affect the health, morale, and efficiency of personnel."

Administrative and Communication Infrastructure

Administrative offices, record rooms, and communication centers are often outdated and ill-equipped, impacting overall efficiency and coordination. Modern offices, secure communication networks, and technology-enabled systems are essential for effective policing in today’s environment.

Impact of Infrastructure Deficiencies:

Reduced morale and motivation among personnel.

Lower operational efficiency and preparedness during critical law and order situations.

Challenges in retaining trained and experienced personnel.

Risk of compromised safety and security of both police personnel and the public.

Recommendations by NPP:

-- The NPP strongly recommended that the State Government should take immediate and decisive steps to address the infrastructure challenges in police and also demanded a "Comprehensive Infrastructure Audit"

-- "Conduct a thorough audit of all police facilities to identify buildings, barracks, training areas, messes, and administrative offices that require urgent repair, renovation, or replacement."

Adequate and Dedicated Funding:

Allocate sufficient funds for the renovation, restoration, and modernization of police infrastructure, with clear timelines and accountability for completion.

Timely Execution of Projects:

Establish proper monitoring mechanisms to ensure ongoing infrastructure projects are completed on schedule and meet quality standards.

Modernization and Technology Integration:

Upgrade facilities to include technology-enabled training centers, secure communication networks, and modern administrative offices.

Welfare-Oriented Improvements:

Improve living conditions, mess facilities, and overall welfare infrastructure to support the dignity, efficiency, and motivation of personnel.

Conclusion:

Infrastructure development in the Nagaland Police Department is not merely a matter of comfort but a critical factor in ensuring law and order, public safety, and operational efficiency. The NPP urges the State Government to accord the highest priority to this issue and take immediate steps to strengthen the capabilities and welfare of our police personnel.
