Iran is sometimes called “the head of the Octopus” because of all the places where it has tentacles in its open war against the West.
This started in 1979 when the illustrious Ayatollah Khomeini took control.
Paranoid western leaders led by Trump and 'innocent people' being sandwiched. Can Iran come out from the cold ?
2026 - Jan 12 : Donald Trump ‘unafraid’ to use ‘lethal force’ on Iran but wants diplomacy to be ‘first option’, says White House
The western media firmly believes that Iran easily links the Israel-Palestine conflict - of course via Hezbollah and Hamas. Iran is also related to Venezuela, the country that made Trump-directed news in the new year. It is said drugs as well as weapons from Venezuela reach Tehran to be used and 'abused'.
On the next plane, against what the US and Europe claim -- Iran insists it does not possess any Nuke weapon and perhaps does not want either. It's a fact of life ... for all US's CIA and Israel’s vaunted intelligence capabilities, no country has definitively proved Tehran otherwise. Come to think of it -- we have Iraq story being repeated.
The decision to attack Iran in 2025 essentially by Israeli forces was based on a fear and hatred and that gave the western powers an excuse called guessing games. By August 2025 it was clear both the US and Israel were irked. But their anger suggested another story -- and a vital one -- big confirmation of a big failure to expose nuclear capabilities of Iran.
These caused serious physical damage, but did not change basic mindsets. Iran remains adamant to fight. For his part Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu gave a call for an uprising. The supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also became more defiant and the crackdown on opponents was intensified.
If today Iran is burning -- if Tehran is blamed -- Washington and its associates also get their share. Now the fresh violence in the new year amid stronger protesters by the citizens especially women. Maybe this sounds a paradox; all these have increased the likelihood of Iran building a bomb for self-defence.
What we have today is almost a repeat of 1979 saga. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returned to Iran on Feb 1, 1979 after 15 years of exile. That marked a new chapter in geo-politics in Iran and Middle East.
More than 90% of Iran's Muslims are Shia, and back in 1979 the ousting of the shah by Shia Islamist revolutionaries shocked and electrified the Islamic world.
Shia in countries like Lebanon and parts of the Gulf stopped accepting that they were at the bottom of the social and political pile, and demanded more say.
In 1979 Islamic militants took 52 Americans hostage inside the US embassy
Come back to 2025-26; it may be pointed out that since 2022; the British agency MI5 have uncovered at least 20 assassination plots linked to the Islamic Republic against British nationals.
There have been multiple stories about pro-Iranian camps radicalising children in the UK.
Analysts have pointed out that both in UK and several other western countries; Tehran has actually shown the danger of extremist Islam.
Worse; it was exported.
In 2026 -- the Iranian authorities have attempted to shut down the internet and there were bloodshed on the streets.
Donald Trump is showing his anger as Crown Prince Raza Pahlavi is seen as a potential leader in waiting. Of course he would be encouraging demonstrations and on the other hand ... the Ayatollah desperately attempts to cling to power.
Look from the other side ... and we know the story has wheels-within-wheels -- something complex but very close to the manner ancient Indian wisdom has seen things.
First -- *** Is the US and Israel are really sincere about preventing Iran acquiring the bomb?
** Next of they are; the two countries with strong defence policies and armies ought to set an example and reduce and even eliminate their Nuke arsenals. Trump will simply scream at the suggestion stage itself.
**
Historically from geostrategic point of view, for the western world; Iran is an avoidable tragedy – but the US or Israel would again never agree.
*** There goes a saying -- in retrospect we realise that with 'wiser heads' any global crisis could have been different.
*** After 1979 ... gradually the US-Iran animosity intensified.
Of course; on the face value Europe tried but failed miserably to chart a middle path.
** Then came Donald Trump in 2018. He mastered a UN-and EU-ratified deal vis-a-vis Iran and reimposed sanctions.
Such policies were directly responsible for the mess of 2026.
Other take aways --
* Donald Trump has said his goal is to drive Iran’s oil exports “to zero”.
** Iran says Israel and the US are masterminding the unrest.
*** Trump also said that he is considering military options in support of the protesters.
