Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, March 7, 2024 shared a selfie clicked with 'friend' Nazim during his first trip to Srinagar.

 This was PM's first visit after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. 

Who is 'friend' Nazim and why was his story worth sharing?







"A memorable selfie with my friend Nazim. I was impressed by the good work he’s doing. At the public meeting, he requested a selfie and was happy to meet him. My best wishes for his future endeavours," PM Modi said in a post on X.

Nazim Nazir, who hails from Pulwama and is an apiculturist, spoke to the Prime Minister about his journey as an entrepreneur.


Nazir said he started his beekeeping business in 2018 when he was in Class 10.


"I had kept two bee boxes on my terrace. After returning from school, I used to go to my terrace and take care of the bees. After completing my Class 10, I started thinking about how to turn this into a business," he said.




 'Dil jeetne aaya hoon': PM in Srinagar, first since Article 370 scrapping







PM today unveiled multiple development projects in Srinagar. Later, the Prime Minister also addressed a rally.  


Addressing a public rally, the Prime Minister said he was "elated to be amongst the wonderful people of Srinagar." ("dil jeetne aaya hoon...")

In his first visit to Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveiled multiple development projects worth more than Rs 6,400 crore, during the 'Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir' programme at Srinagar's Bakshi Stadium.  "Development projects being dedicated today will boost the development of Jammu and Kashmir. A developed Jammu and Kashmir priority for developed India," PM Modi said, as he addressed the people of the Union Territory.

The Prime Minister also said there was an era when the people of Jammu and Kashmir were deprived of benefits.

"There was an era when law implemented in other parts of the country could not be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir, when schemes for the welfare of the poor were implemented across the country, but our brothers and sisters of Jammu and Kashmir were deprived of the benefits. See now, how the times have changed."


Slamming the Congress party, PM Modi said, " The Congress was misguiding not only the people of Jammu and Kashmir but the entire nation on Article 370."




"Today, I got the opportunity to inaugurate several development projects related to tourism. The power of development, tourism possibilities, empowerment of farmers, and the leadership of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir is not just a region, it is the forehead of India. Viksit Jammu and Kashmir is the priority of Viksit Bharat," he said.

"I have been told that 1 lakh people from 285 blocks have joined us virtually. I want to thank the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This new Jammu and Kashmir has a bright future and the courage to overcome challenges... Seeing your happy faces, 140 crore people across the country are feeling satisfied," he said.



Earlier, the Prime Minister distributed appointment letters to nearly 1,000 newly recruited government employees and interacted with the beneficiaries of various central schemes, including women achievers, farmers and entrepreneurs.








Upon his arrival, Modi visited an exhibition which showcased local products of Jammu and Kashmir. 


A video of the Prime Minister at the exhibition was shared on social media.  According to an official statement, the 'Holistic Agriculture Development Programme' (HADP) by the Prime Minister will provide a major boost to the agri-economy of the region and will cover the full spectrum of activities in three major domains of horticulture, agriculture and livestock husbandry.
