Congress MP Tharoor makes 'Snollygoster' swipe at Nitish Kumar ::::: BJP/NDA recaptures corridors of power in Bihar

Frustration and anguish make a combo in suave Shashi Tharoor. He does his 'best' -- circulates 'word of the day' on Nitish Kumar's betrayal journey !!

Congress MP Tharoor's 'Word Of The Day' dig at Nitish Kumar

" Didn't realise it would be the Word of Another Day too!#snollygoster."

"Word of the day! Definition of *snollygoster* US dialect: a shrewd, unprincipled politician.

:::: Politics 2024 -- God Ram to 'Paltu Ram' Nitish  ::::

BJP-Nitish bonhomie has saga of success and mutual distrust too !!

Nitish Kumar on Sunday resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar after meeting Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the Raj Bhavan. The Janata Dal (United) veteran said "nothing was right" in the Rashtriya Janata Dal-Congress Mahagathbandhan alliance.

Pathetic response from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge --- shows the deep crisis the grand old party is:

"We spoke to Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav, and they also believed that he (Nitish Kumar) would leave the alliance (Mahagathbandhan) soon. We tried to keep him with us, but we knew about this from the start that he would leave (the alliance)," says Congress president ..... Next thing he should start writing poetry and accompany in the 'luxury bus travel'.

Samrat Choudhary elected BJP legislative party leader in Bihar, Vijay Kumar Sinha deputy leader

JD(U)’s 45 MLAs and the BJP - 78, along with the support of one Independent legislator, together make up 124 MLAs. In 243-member assembly, 122 is majority mark. RJD (79), Congress (19), and three Left parties together (16) have 114 MLAs, eight short of a majority.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar submits resignation to Governor Rajendra Arlekar, says JD(U)-RJD alliance "thik nahi chal raha tha"

Nitish Kumar speaks to PM Narendra Modi.

Bihar's electoral arithmetic makes Nitish Kumar return to NDA -- JD(U)-RJD alliance "thik nahi chal raha tha"

Nitish Kumar is aging. JD-U does not have a good second-level leadership. Thus in times to come, Nitish Kumar's political acumen will be scrutinised for its effectiveness in dealing with emerging challenges. By 2029, JD-U in Bihar and Biju Janata Dal in neighbouring Odisha will face existential crisis.

Bihar is at at the crossroads of political evolution. Lalu will also fade away in next five years. From 2010 to 2020 - JD's strength came down from 115 to 43 in 243-member assembly. Bihar had produced socialist icons. Jayaprakash Narayan to Karpoori Thakur. In 2024, the Modi government has honoured Karpoori Thakur with Bharat Ratna. All these have a special significance.

Nitish Kumar had graduated from Bihar College of Engineering, now NIT Patna with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He was involved in the movement led by the illustrious Jayaprakash Narayan between 1974-77 and was also close, among others, to Satyendra Narayan Sinha.

The times to come would also decide where Kumar’s emotive way of election appeal has been justified in the long run. “Sirf Ek mauka (I just need one chance)” he would often say during the peak of 2005 November poll campaign. “I just want one opportunity to serve Bihar," he would tell the voters as he hopped relentlessly between constituencies.  He would also assert: "If I cannot control law and order situation in three months, if I cannot change the Bihar's image and make every Bihari proud of his identity. I will not come to you again for votes". Well, only time space has the answer to this.

Nitish Kumar in 2005 was the Man, Bihar wanted, the 'man' who freed ‘Bihar’ from Lalu Yadav’s fiefdom

In the times to come, the seasoned socialist leader Nitish Kumar will of course best remembered as a man who ousted onetime fellow socialist Lalu Prasad Yadav, ending the latter’s 15-year long monopolistic rule over the governance-starved state of Bihar.

JD-U's earlier avatar was Samata Party.  While Nitish Kumar's Kurmi caste provided the base, George Fernandes (a Karnataka man) was the leader. During Emergency, George won the election from jail.

But time fades away everything. In later stage came in Sharad Yadav as Nitish's socio-political ally. The 'Yadav' caste suited Nitish electorally. Sharad Yadav was one of the fiesty politicians. He was a man constantly in touch with ground reality.

In 1999 Lok Sabha polls, he even defeated Lalu Prasad Yadav from Madhepura. But at one point Nitish fell out with him too.

The leadership transition moved to R C P Singh -- the brief stint as JDU national president saw gradual move towards BJP. Nitish was irked as it left a leadership vacuum too. Lalan Singh could not do much.

His proximity to RJD left Nitish Kumar unnerved and so he was removed as party chief.

In 2025, Nitish may yet again embrace Lalu's family and ditch BJP. But around 2029 -- next Lok Sabha polls - when BJP will gear up for generational shift and so will be the case in parties such as Trinamool Congress or for that matter even in Congress; the relevance of JD-U will come into question.

In neighbouring Odisha too, by 2029, the Biju Janata Dal may make way for the BJP.

"Only Nitish Kumar can explain why a situation like this has arrived ....Our Congress leadership tried its best to save the alliance," says Congress leader and former Uttarakhand CM Harish Singh Rawat.

Nitish Kumar's 'Paltu Ram' game is also linked to JD-U losing grip pretty fast in Bihar. In 2020 assembly it was far behind BJP. Otherwise checkout these data:

In 2010, JDU secured 115 seats out of 243 in the Bihar Assembly. It was the emergence of Si-sashan man. In 2015, JD-U seats came down to 71 and RJD his 'dominating partner'.

In 2020, he was back with BJP and this time his tally dropped by 28 seats and the tally was a modest 43 seats —almost a one-third of 2010.

In 2014, JD-U went solo in Lok Sabha polls, had suffered setback as Narendra Modi is a big factor in parliamentary elections. Assembly polls, things change and caste and Lalu Prasad suits Nitish.

In 2019 and 2009, when it contested as part of NDA, JD(U) had a good show in Lok Sabha polls.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA in Bihar comprised the BJP, JD(U) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). Of the 40 parliamentary seats in the state, the BJP and JD(U) each contested 17 seats and the LJP six seats.

With a combined vote share of 54.34%, the alliance swept the state, winning 39 of the 40 seats.

While the BJP and LJP won all the seats they contested, the JD(U) fell short in 1 seat, which went to the Congress.
