This is certainly big, very big !!

Iran said that two important bases of the terrorist group Jaish al-Adl were destroyed in Pakistan on Tuesday.

Pakistan 'strongly condemns' violation of airspace by Iran killing 2 children: Foreign Office

Islamabad vehemently protested the “violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty”, calling it “completely unacceptable” and warning it “can have serious consequences”.

It expressed concern that the “illegal act” took place despite the existence of several established channels of communication between Pakistan and Iran, adding that a “strong protest has already been lodged with the concerned senior official in the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran”.

It said: “Additionally, the Iranian Charge d’affaires has been called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey our strongest condemnation of this blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and that the responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran.”

“Pakistan has always said terrorism is a common threat to all countries in the region that requires coordinated action. Such unilateral acts are not in conformity with good neighbourly relations and can seriously undermine bilateral trust and confidence,” the statement concluded.

Last month, at least 11 Iranian police officers were killed in an attack overnight on a police station in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan. Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, while visiting the site, had urged Pakistan to prevent terrorist groups from establishing bases within its borders, the official news agency of Iran reported at the time.

Local Iranian media have reported on Tuesday that these two important bases housing Jaish ul-Adl terror group were targeted and "destroyed by missiles and drones earlier today on Tuesday" (Jan 16, 2024).

Some other local media in Iran say that the targeted bases were located in an area called Kuhe Sabz in Balochistan province of Pakistan, where one of the largest bases of the Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group is, according to Mehr news agency of Iran.

Iran, which backs Hamas in its war with Israel, has accused the US of backing what it calls Israeli war crimes in Gaza. The US has said it supported Israel in its military campaign in Gaza but has raised concerns about the number of Palestinian civilians killed.

The terror group has previously mounted attacks on Iranian security forces in the border area with Pakistan, Reuters reported.

Earlier, the IRGC said they attacked what it called the "espionage headquarters" of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, state media reported late on Monday. The elite force said they also struck in Syria against the Islamic State terror group.

In addition to those strikes northeast of Kurdistan's capital Erbil in a residential area near the US consulate, the IRGC said they launched attacks against the "perpetrators of terrorist operations" in Iran, including the Islamic State, according to Reuters.

No US facilities were impacted by the missile strikes, two US officials told Reuters. The strikes came amid concerns about the escalation of a conflict that has spread through the Middle East since the war between Israel and Palestinian terror group Hamas began on October 7 last year, with Iran's allies also entering the fray from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

Commenting on the IRGC anti-terrorist operations on Tuesday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the operations were part of Tehran's just punishment against those who act against the country's security.

The operation was in line with the authoritative defense of the country's sovereignty and security and countering terrorism, Nasser Kan'ani said. "The Islamic Republic of Iran always supports the peace, stability, and security of the region and adheres to the observance of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries," he said, adding that at the same time, the country will not hesitate to take deterrent action against the threats to its national security and punish the criminals.

The Islamic Republic, with its high intelligence power, identified the criminals' headquarters and targeted their base in a precise operation, the senior Iranian diplomat underlined, emphasizing that this was only part of the response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to those who took action against the country's national security and the security of Iranian citizens.

"Terrorism is a pervasive global threat and Iran is determined to fight terrorism within the framework of joint regional and international cooperation," he stressed.

Early Tuesday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) fired barrages of ballistic missiles at Syrian bases of terrorists who were involved in recent attacks in Iran, as well as an Israeli espionage center in Iraq's Kurdistan region.

The IRGC said the first missile strike targeted gathering places of commanders and main elements of recent terrorist attacks in the Iranian cities of Kerman and Rask. It added that the strike came after gathering points of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group were identified in the occupied territories of Syria and destroyed with a number of ballistic missiles.

"India of 20 years ago has begun to vanish, now we have a new, extraordinarily dynamic India" - says historian Ferguson

"I remember, not long after 2008, predicting that it would be a bit like the fable of the tortoise and the hare. China then was the hare. India looked like the tortoise. And I said, looking at the demographics, it will turn out to be the tortoise India that wins this race.

Well, here we are in 2024. Everybody talks about China's slowdown, China's deflation, and an Indian economic miracle. There's no getting away from the fact that something has fundamentally changed. The India that I first got to know 20 years ago has begun to vanish. That India is being replaced by a new, extraordinarily dynamic India," historian Niall Ferguson told 'India Today' at Davos.

Niall Campbell Ferguson FRSE is a Scottish–American historian and is considered as an expert and writer. He also lectures on international history and economic history.

Last year, he had said, "Chimerica (China-America bond) is over. It began dying in the 2008 financial crisis.

By 2015, it was dead – with Donald Trump’s election, its funeral began. We are in a very different world to 2007 when I first used the term ‘Chimerica’.

"We are now in Cold War 2 and the United States has woken up to the threat China poses. The Chinese also made their move too soon, before they were ready. Now, they find themselves increasingly isolated the world over."
