Sikh terrorist row !! -- US side shared inputs pertaining to nexus b/w organized criminals, gun runners, terrorists and others : MEA

Amid reports that attempts to eliminate one Sikh terrorist in America was foiled by US authorities, External Affairs Ministry on Wednesday, Nov 22, 2023, said that during the course of recent discussions on India-US security cooperation, the US side shared some inputs pertaining to the nexus between organized criminals, gun runners, terrorists and others.

In response to media queries on reports of discussions between India and the US on security matters, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the inputs are a cause of "concern" for both countries and they decided to take necessary follow-up action.

“On its part, India takes such inputs seriously since it impinges on our own national security interests as well. Issues in the context of US inputs are already being examined by relevant departments,” he said.

MEA spokesman's remarks have a significance of their own as this comes on the backdrop of Western media reports over alleged plans to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

'Financial Times' reported on Wednesday that while quoting multiple sources aware of the matter reported that US thwarted a plot to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who holds dual citizenship - American and Canadian.

As far as flagging the Pannun assassination plot to the Indian government is concerned, the report while quoting an anonymous source said the warning was issued to New Delhi following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Washington which took place from June 21 to 24.

“We understand the Indian government is further investigating this issue and will have more to say about it in the coming days. We have conveyed our expectation that anyone deemed responsible should be held accountable,” said White House spokesperson, Adrienne Watson, in a statement.
