US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that he welcomed Israel’s agreed pauses in its offensive in Gaza, but that more needed to be done. “I think some progress has been made,” Blinken said, speaking in New Delhi. “But I was also very clear that much more needs to be done in terms of protecting civilians and getting humanitarian assistance to them. “

The 2+2 meetings signify the participation of two high-level representatives, Ministers holding Foreign and Defence portfolios, from India and the United States seeking to enhance the scope of dialogue between them.

"Our agenda covered advancing our strategic partnership, including elevating our defense ties,  moving forward in space & tech, future logistics cooperation and people to people contacts. Also exchanged perspectives on the Indo-Pacific, South Asia, West Asia and Ukraine conflict," tweeted External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.  "Reaffirmed our commitment to our collaboration in multilateral arena and engaging the Global South".

The 2+2 meetings have been held annually with the US leaders since 2018.

It is said such a strategic and diplomatic dialogue mechanism enables the two globally signifcant key partners to 'better understand and appreciate' each other’s strategic concerns and sensitivities taking into account political factors on both sides.

These contribute to build a stronger, more integrated strategic relationship in a rapidly changing global environment.
