The state as a whole can progress and develop if the money provided by the government is being judiciously used for the purpose it is intended for, said Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
He said utilisation of funds provided by the government for development can lead to the development of both small and large villages which can lead to the greater progress of the state.
And to achieve this, he said it is 'important' for the village leaders to display honesty and dedication towards implementation of any developmental works.
However, he observed that often village leaders failed in their responsibilities. Rio was speaking at the Sechü (Zubza) while laying the foundation stone of Mera-Sechü-Rau Seyie complex site and inauguration of the commemoration stone of the Mechüzie (playground) as the special guest.
Reiterating that the unresolved Naga Political issue has been a stumbling block to so many things, Rio however, said he was pleased with the gradual growth and development that has been taking place in the state. “There is still much to be done and we are actively involved towards this end".
The Chief Minister expressed his delight on the immense talent of the Naga youth particularly in the field of music and sports and games stating ‘it is heartening to witness the progress made by our youth in various aspects.’
Sports and game are the future and pride of the people, said Rio adding that people today, compete each other through sports and games, and not warfare.
Commending the generosity of the landowners who have donated their best lands for development where the youth can display their talents in sports and games, he said games are played with strength, and that even a small village can compete with others. Sensing the need to empower the youth, preservation and promotion of Nagas rich cultural heritage, customs and traditions, food habits etc, Rio said that government has been working on these areas since he became the chief minister in 2004.
Nagas are gifted physically and with immense talent among the youth, Rio said adding, ‘we are second to none’ and that with proper coach and training, vast opportunities are waiting for all.
Citing the win of 79 medals at the North-East Olympic and eight medals at the national games, Rio said these developments are very encouraging. Also stating that people from the Western Angami region has been pioneers in Naga history, he thanked them for creating another history by electing a woman from their constituency in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Rio also highlighted some development works which are soon to be taken up in the Western Angami region.
Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse as guest of honour of the programme appreciated the Sechüma community for the development works that have been made, and indicated for further infrastructural development for the progression of the youth.
She also highlighted some training programmes under WRD available for women and girls which aim to enhance their skills and provide livelihood opportunities, and urged all to avail the same. Kruse also encouraged farming as a viable source of income, and suggested exploring various options which are available citing fertile lands, favourable climatic conditions and couple with technological advances can yield favourable results.
Rio highlighted the correlation between peace, productivity, and economic improvement, emphasizing the positive impact peace has on society. Commending the villagers for contributing land for infrastructural development, particularly the playground, he expressed hope that such gesture would nurture the youth and encourage excellence in sports. He urged village leaders to unite, be honest, and commit to progress, utilizing development funds effectively for the benefit of the people.
The Chief Minister lamented the challenges posed by ineffective leadership, emphasizing the importance of united efforts for the overall progress of the state. He acknowledged the shift from a war culture to unity through sports, stating that sports and games were integral to the future and pride of the people.
He pointed out that through sports, numerous youths at the global level were achieving wealth, recognition, and acclaim not only from their fans but from people worldwide. CM also announced the upcoming Nagaland Olympic and North East Olympic events to be hosted in Chümoukedima and Dimapur.
He emphasized the need for the state to nurture athletes with medal prospects, highlighting that this investment in sporting talent is crucial for preparing a competitive bid to host the National Games in Nagaland. Rio highlighted the uniqueness of Naga culture and festivals, emphasizing that they are celebrated collectively through the Hornbill festival.
He noted with pride that this celebration has gained global recognition, attracting thousands of tourists to the state each year.
Rio also lauded the people of Western Angami constituency for producing pioneers in various fields, including the first woman legislator and minister in the state. Earlier, the chief minister unveiled the monolith for the new playground and laid the foundation stone for the Mera-Sechü-Rau Seyie Complex site at Sechü (Zubza).
