'Big row... or politics of new low'
A sitting Congress MP from Bengaluru, DK Suresh says, "The South Indian states are facing injustice. The money collected from southern states is being given to North Indian states. If this continues, we will be forced to demand a separate country.
"The centre is getting over Rs 4 lakh crore from us and what we are getting in return is negligible. We have to question this. If this is not rectified, all southern states have to raise their voices demanding a separate nation."
He also said: "This is the election budget. In the interim budget, only names have been changed. They have introduced some Sanskrit names and Hindi names of schemes. The Centre is not properly giving the right share of GST and direct taxes to South Indian states.
Asked to comment on these controversial remarks, former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said:
"It is not the policy of the Congress Party or the position of the Congress Party to ask for a separate country that I can deny. For the rest, you have to ask Mr Suresh."
JNV Budget - Judicious, Non-populist, Visionart, says IMF ::: Congress leader Tharoor flays Govt :::: "It's inclusive and innovative", says BJP
"The acronym that comes to my mind is JNV. This budget is judicious, non-populist, and visionary. If we aim to become the third-largest economy, then at the very least, we need to be among the top 10 innovative countries," says IMF Executive Director KV Subramanian.
::::: Himachal CM and Congress leader Sukhu says, ".... we have pinned hopes on full-fledged Budget after polls"
“The UPA government in 10 years pulled 140 million or 14 crore people out from below the poverty line. It is undisputed the world over. Whereas this government (NDA) keeps shifting the baseline. We rank 111 out of 125 countries in the 2023 Global Hunger Index,” says Congress MP Shashi Tharoor
"This budget is both inclusive and innovative. It demonstrates innovation in approach and thinking, as well as from the perspective of science and technology. The budget addresses Indian conditions and requirements demographically, democratically, and also takes care of diversity," says Union MoS Dr Jitendra Singh.
“At a time when Himachal is suffering from a historic disaster (drought), we thought we would receive a special relief package but nothing in that regard was announced. This was just an interim budget, so we have pinned our hopes on the full-fledged budget (that would be presented after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections),” says Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
“In the last 10 years, PM Modi has conducted India's economy in such a way that the poorest of the poor and the marginalised sections of society can come up in the development stream. The results are clear, 25 crore people have come out of poverty,” says Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw (handling Railways and IT)
“This is a very relevant budget for me; it allowed me to deeply understand how the central government thinks about the health sector. There is a 13 per cent increase in health expenses this time, and it is giving credence to the fact that the government of India has prioritised health,” says Dr Vishal Rao, chief Oncologist at HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru, according to news agency PTI.
"Fastest growing economy is not a badge of honour. China's GDP is five and a half times more than our GDP. If they grow at, say, 3%, in order to match their annual growth, we have to grow at 15%... So don't talk about GDP growth.
Talk about the per capita income growth. If the GDP is growing at such a high rate, why is the per capita income growing at half that rate?," says Chidambaram.
"If the GDP is growing at 7%, why is per capita income growing only at 2 or 3%? Please ask the finance minister that question. If the total GDP is growing at 7%, why is per capita income not growing at the same rate?", the former Finance Minister said.
