Continuing the political mudslinging, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that Congress politics have become “soft naxalite".
He has also accused Rahul Gandhi of provoking the crowd with his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and “Naxalite tactics".
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma alleges that BJP will win all constituencies covered by Rahul Gandhi during Nyay Yatra in Assam.
The BJP leader also claimed that Rahul Gandhi wanted to destabilise Assam during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Reminiscing about the time when Himanta Biswa Sarma himself was part of Congress, the Assam CM said, “Their slogans don't reflect Gandhian principles anymore. I too was in Congress for 22 years. But it never had such slogans earlier."
FIR has been registered against Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal , Kanhaiya Kumar and others in Assam
‘Provoking crowd’: Himanta Sarma orders case against Rahul Gandhi after yatra clash
With reference to wanton acts of violence, provocation , damage to public property and assault on police personnel today by Cong members , a FIR has been registered against Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal , Kanhaiya Kumar and other individuals under section 120(B)143/147/188/283/353/332/333/427 IPC R/W Sec. 3 of PDPP Act.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed that a criminal case be filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly "provoking the crowd" after a clash broke out between Congress workers and police on the outskirts of Guwahati on Tuesday. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi was stopped from entering Guwahati earlier in the day after it was denied permission to enter the city limits, leading to protests from Congress workers.
The police had to employ force to halt the Congress workers, who broke barricades and tussled with them.
Later, Gandhi addressed party workers and supporters on the outskirts of the city, referring to them as "babbar sher" (lion) who were strong enough to topple barricades. "We have broken barricades, but we will not break the law," he stated.
In the wake of the incident, Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and accused Rahul Gandhi and his party cadres of “unruly behaviour” and employing “Naxalite tactics”. "These are not part of Assamese culture. We are a peaceful state. Such “naxalite tactics” are completely alien to our culture.
I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to register a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd & use the footage you have posted on your handles as the evidence," the Assam Chief Minister wrote.
"Your unruly behaviour and violation of agreed guidelines have resulted in a massive traffic jam in Guwahati now," he added.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which has been making its way through the Northeast, has faced several roadblocks in BJP-ruled Assam. Rahul Gandhi was also denied entry to the shrine at Sankardeva's birthplace in Nagaon district. The Congress has accused the Assam government of creating unnecessary obstacles for the yatra and has alleged targeted attacks against their convoys and leaders.
Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said the Congress party's yatra would not be allowed to enter the city in order to avoid traffic jams. Replying to the Chief Minister's tweet, Assam top cop GP Singh said action was being taken in accordance with the law. "Unruliness and violation of ASL decision, including attempt to change route through force is also being taken up with appropriate agencies (sic)," the Assam DGP detailed.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which entered Meghalaya on Monday, returned to Assam for its last leg and will travel through the outskirts of the state's largest city Guwahati. The yatra would be in Assam till Thursday.
Modi surprises Bihar and nation; Former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur to be awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously
Karpoori Thakur could be described as India's original Mandal Messiah !!
Interestingly, Bihar BJP leaders have threatened to hold programmes Karpoori Thakur's birth anniversary on Jan 24, Wednesday and it also alleged that the JD-U 'sabotaged' BJP's programme earlier.
Nitish Kumar, a key opposition leader, elated over Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur.
In a statement, Bihar CM and JD(U) president said it was a 'fulfillment of an age-old demand' by his party that will 'send a positive message among deprived sections of the society'.
Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi welcomed the government move saying someone who fought for poor is getting due recognition under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It is argued that the subaltern classes of Bihar – MBCs, dalits and upper OBCs had already gained confidence during the time of the Janata Party government and Thakur had played a part in it.
His efforts set the tone for the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations for reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the 1990s.
Born in Bihar's Samastipur, Thakur served as chief minister for two terms. Also known as ‘jannayak’, he championed the causes of backward castes. He was the first to mobilise the backward castes, paving the way for 26 per cent reservation for them in government services in Bihar in November 1978.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Bharat Ratna for Thakur. “I am delighted that the Government of India has decided to confer the Bharat Ratna on the beacon of social justice, the great Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji and that too at a time when we are marking his birth centenary.
"This prestigious recognition is a testament to his enduring efforts as a champion for the marginalized and a stalwart of equality and empowerment,” he posted on X.
Karpoori Thakur was the pioneer in providing the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) with the benefit of reservation as he implemented the recommendations of the Mungeri Lal Commission during his tenure as Bihar CM from 1977 to 1979.
Karpoori Thakur was close to Jaya Prakash Narayan.During Emergency in India (1975–77), he and other prominent leaders of Janata Party led the "Total Revolution" movement aimed at non-violent transformation of the Indian society.
Karpoori Thakur was born in the Nai caste to Gokul Thakur and Ramdulari Devi at Pitaunjhia (now Karpuri Gram) village in Samastipur District of Bihar.
For his participation in the Indian independence movement, he spent 26 months in prison.
After India gained independence, Thakur worked as a teacher in his village's school. He became a member of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha in 1952 from Tajpur constituency as a Socialist Party candidate.
He was arrested for leading P & T employees during the general strike of the Central Government employees in 1960. In 1970, he undertook a fast unto death for 28 days to promote the cause of Telco labourers.
Thakur was a votary of Hindi language, and as the education minister of Bihar, he removed English as the compulsory subject for the matriculation curriculum.
It is alleged that the Bihari students suffered due to the resulting low standards of English-medium education in the state. Thakur served as a minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, before becoming the first non-Congress socialist Chief Minister of Bihar in 1970.
He also enforced total prohibition of alcohol in Bihar. During his reign, many schools and colleges were established in his name in the backward areas of Bihar.
“Hearty congratulation and best wishes to all of you on this sacred occasion of the installation of Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram in the grand temple. Hail Siya Ram,” Arvind Kejriwal wrote in a post on his X handle. His prayers could be political and also 'personal'.
'Four summons' and one-day of prayer may be a new formula in the city.
The song "Ram ka naam Badnaam na Karo" makes lot of sense today.
Key opposition leaders faced the worst kind of predicament in their careers today.
They avoided Ayodhya and Narendra Modi but had to visit temples. The virtuous crown prince also had to sit on floor providing 'revolutionary' quality (sic) snaps to Jairam Ramesh and his team.
Mamata Banerjee, one of the main stakeholders in the Opposition block, visited Kalighat temple. Her fault line vis-a-vis Hindus are many. Yes, she cant do without a Masjid and hence quiz-master party leader also visited a Gurdwara, a Church and a Mosque.
And she also addressed a gathering. Did her 'fish fry' media team tell her about the visit of Gurunanak to Ayodhya's Ram temple should remain unanswered !!
Rahul Gandhi, on his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam’s Nagaon, was stopped from entering the Batadrava Temple, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva, a 15th century pandit. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma treated his former 'dog' loving leader with a simple tweet: "Ram Rajya". The Congress-friendly journos and columnists will soon write columns on such 'mean politics'.
Cricket writer turned historians may be interviewed by Karan Thapars and Barkhas soon. But some changes are already in the air. Mojo sounds little pro-BJP these days. Naya business operation kya? Telephone lines must be working !!
The architect of 'Congress revival' journey needs to check Shashi Tharoor's tweets very soon. Of course, Rahul did throw up brilliant questions on his 'victimhood' !!
“Will PM Modi now decide who can visit a temple and when? We do not want to create any problems, simply pray at the temple,” said Rahul. Wow ! Jairam ji, its all working.
Rahul's party colleagues, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and his Himachal Pradesh counterpart Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had no such trouble. The Karnataka chief minister inaugurated a Sita Rama Lakshmana temple in Bangalore’s Mahadevpura around the same time when Modi was leading the show at Ayodhya.
A few days back, we saw PM Modi shaking hands with Siddaramaiah, and according to reports, Namo said, "yeh sab hotey raheta hae". Any double meaning??
(A pro-Hindutva man in Congress? )
Himaachal CM, Sukhu visited the ancient Hanuman temple at Jakhu hill near Shimla.
Do as done by your leaders (read Kharge and Sonia Gandhi) did not apply to two Chief Ministers.
“Ramayana is incomplete without Hanuman. On the occasion of pran-pratishtha of Lord Ram, visited the Jakhu temple and bowed before Lord Hanuman...," Sukhu wrote on his Facebook page signing off with 'Jai Jai Sita Ram.
Something near that -- 'Jai Shri Ram' is an old BJP salutation and it works well. The Himachal government also announced full day holiday on Jan 22, something India's 'worst communalist' Namo did not do. Ting Tong !!
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues in Delhi were busy celebrating the event, organising “shobha yatras” and “bhandaras”. When Babri was brought down, Bal Thackery had said, "If my Sainiks have done it, I am proud of them". Rumour was Thackeray's claims were faulty as it was Bajrang Dal and VHP guys who had done it. Nevertheless, Uddhav Thackeray was not invited.
Former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena faction, has been camping in the Maharashtra holy town of Nashik.
He offered prayers at the Kalaram temple, where B R Ambedkar had led a satyagraha in 1930. Thackeray’s visit to Nashik has a political purpose.
On Tuesday, Jan 23, 2024, the 98th birth anniversary of Balasaheb Thackeray, one of the staunchest Hindutva leaders, Uddhav is to launch the campaign for his party. Ironically, if one goes by Maharashtra assembly Speaker, Uddhav does not 'own' the party founded by his father.
Uddhav Thackeray life and politics changed when he came under the influence of Sharad Pawar and had an alliance with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, NCP.
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik could possibly be the only chief minister to have stayed in front of a television set at “Naveen Niwas”, his official residence in Bhubaneswar’s airport area, watching the proceedings at Ayodhya along with VK Pandian, his former principal secretary and now BJD leader.
“Witnessed the auspicious Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha being held at Ayodhya. Delighted to see the nation coming together with religious fervour for the pran pratishtha,” Patnaik posted on X along with an image with his hands folded.
