Pathetically 'negative' ????
Ram Mandir inauguration 'Modi ka function': Rahul Gandhi
"It is difficult for us to go to a political function which is designed around the Prime Minister of India and designed around the RSS," Rahul Gandhi told reporters enroute Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
"The RSS and the BJP have made the 22nd January function a completely political Narendra Modi function. It's an RSS BJP function and I think that is why the Congress president said that he would not go to the function."
"We are open to all religions, all practices. Even the authorities of the Hindu religion, the biggest authorities of the Hindu religion, have made their view public about what they think about the 22nd January function that it is a political function," Rahul Gandhi said.
What has gone wrong with the Congress? Few samples, some arguments :::: Columnist Tavleen Singh blasts Sonia Gandhi !!
Samples: Milind Deora, former Union Minister and South Mumbai MP, who quit Congress says:
"Three decades back when Dr Manmohan Singh used to be India's Finance Minister, the same party (Congress) ushered in economic reform; today it is the same party which is abusing industrialists and abusing businessmen and calling them anti-national".
*** "There have been extreme negativity...But last 10 years I waited, I was loyal to the party. But there was no change...every time PM Narendra Modi announced a new scheme, we were ready to oppose it."
*** "The perception being created that I should not have quit the day, Rahul Gandhi decided to start his Nyay yatra from Manipur is very ridiculous. This shows how entitled the Congress has become....If a leader is leaving the party, the party should say we should address the issues and stop that leader from leaving...instead of that, they are debating whether it was a right day or a wrong day".
A few insiders say these 'Left loonies' have gone too far and the Congress party's well centre-of-Left politics is derailed and has unknowingly or otherwise embraced ultra-Left ideologies.
Possibly they could be one -- Jairam Ramesh, a former Minister but a typical NGO variety stereotype leader. Senior Congress leader Kishore Chandra Deo had opposed him and post-2014 polls also blamed Jairam for party's debacle in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Two others presumably are - Yogendra Yadav, who is paradoxically not even a member of the Congress. Does he have so much influence on Rahul Gandhi? And another 'leader' Pravin Chakraborty !! One Congress sympathiser says --- "they are in a parallel universe....".
"Entire thinking of the Congress has become very Left. It's no longer the nationalist party that it used to be," says one insider.
(As 'manthan' against and on Congress gains currency vis-a-vis 2024 Battle ad Jan 22 Mandit-boycott hara kiri, a neo-pro Congress columnist Tavleen Singh says Sonia Gandhi promoted Durbari culture !!)
Columnist Tavleen Singh blasts Sonia Gandhi !! Tavleen has been pro-nationalists BJP for sometime and would slam Congress... she turned anti-Modi...and yet .....
"So, what went wrong? Why has the Congress Party been reduced to such a state that in the past two general elections it has not been able to win enough seats to claim the position of leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha?
Most political pundits blame Rahul Gandhi’s lack of leadership qualities for this, because under the leadership of his Mummy the party was dragged up from one of its lowest points to the heights of power.
Sonia Gandhi did indeed achieve this remarkable feat, but she did something else for which the party is now paying a heavy price. She encouraged a Durbari culture in Delhi, so people who wanted to rise in the party had to come and kowtow in her court instead of doing hard political work in their own constituencies." - Tavleen Singh in 'Indian Express'
She also says rather acidly --
"This (Durbari culture) weakened the roots of the party, because the men who knew how to kowtow best were those who came from political families and were in politics because of their surname not because of their public service.
In villages and small towns that once had powerful local leaders with impressive records of public service, a new genre of grassroots leader emerged. This genre of political leader enters politics not with public service as his goal but money.
It is this culture of making money out of a political career that has done real harm to the Congress Party."
Those were the days: Indira with Arafat |
Rahul Gandhi seems more obsessed with building his own image.
This is all that he will achieve with this new yatra.
The last yatra he took did not leave in its wake strengthened grassroots party organisations and this one is unlikely to either.
But if he was bent on wandering off again just before a general election, then he should have had the political sense to begin the yatra in Ayodhya so that he could have stolen some of Narendra Modi’s thunder.
Why he did not do this is a mystery. What is clear is that the temple boycott is a big mistake.
